Default Successfully Chipped My IS

Just want to share my experience - Im UK based - Was told that the IS ECU could not be altered to Re-Map so found a very smart guy who runs a business writing Re-Mapping Software for various cars and both selling the software as a License to Companies to re-map vehicles and also he Re-Maps local vehicles.

Very Smart guy! Anyway, after telling me Lexus could not be re-mapped since the ECU is encased in a tamper proof housing, he developed a "Chip" for me. Not sure of the details of the chip but he installed it and the results have been amazing.

Firstly all that lag in lower gears is gone, 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear are responsive at low rev's. Can even take off in 2nd gear which was previously unheard of. And i have 6th gear! On rolling road i get 241BHP and most importantly to me, my MPG has gone from 29mpg to 40-45mpg on every tank of fuel.

I run full tank to empty tank to full tank and my tank average is always 40-45 mpg and i drive 70% city 30% highway. I reset my Average MPG when i left the guys place back in February and my average for the last 15,000 miles (majority short city trips) is 41.5 mpg and performance is obviously improved.

Never read about (attempted) re map or Engine Chipping Mods very often on CL. Whats the general opinion of this type of mod amongst CL Forum?

Question

Sounds too good to be true. What car model do you have and have you run a dyno on your car after the chipping ?

I don't know if the gas mileage it's true, but I went last month to my local Lexus dealer and I was talking to a sales guy and he told me the same thing about a friend that did something similar to his car, I didn't believe him!!

Had the car put on a rolling road, or version of a rolling road, on rollers hooked up to a 50" computer screen beside the car. Wasnt the guy who done the work, independent of him. He promised up to 50% more BHP so tested a few weeks after and got the graph printout at 241 BHP

MPG just recorded from the Dash Computer so not sure of accuracy but was previously reading 29MPG average per tank and now never below 40MPG and i reset average MPG as i pulled out of the guys place and 9 months and 13,000 miles later average MPG is +40MPG

A Diesel WoWWW that's cool. Did your torque also increase ? What's the normal torque rating for your 220d ?

Im not sure what the Torque rating on it as standard is, guessing 400nM?

Didnt get new torque measured, but car is def "torquier" more responsive, no lag at all in the low revs which is a common complaint in the popular manual transmissions here in Europe (Almost everyone in UK drives Manuals. Maybe 90:10 ratio Manual to Auto, which is probably other way round in USA)

So i would say Torque increased yes, accelerates faster, smoother ride, no lag, more BHP, more MPG

Delighted with results.

Wow, well since you asked, all chips for US gasoline engines are largely scams, and there has been no "chipping" heard of. Cant say I have ever read anything about chipping a diesel, i would have guessed it to be a scam or just something to fool the ECU to say 20% throttle = 80% and you think you got results, but seems like you have actual hard numbers, both mpg and dyno (what you called moving floor) so I'm a little speechless, skeptical and happy for you.

Tell your friend to do something for US spec cars! I could use the extra hp and MPG's!

Intended as a cool story. Just wanted to share my experiences. Think i have the graph around house somewhere with BHP graph on it and easy to take Tank Average MPG on display with an empty tank etc

But ive no reason to lie. Im not an engine man so dont fully understand how he done it, but he has a Base Standard VW Golf (VW Rabbit i think they are called in America) re-mapped to over 300BHP

And his own Porsche 911 at over 700BHP

I once was into VW's and they would get the diesels chipped all the time. This is the normal guys when it comes to chipping a diesel motor. By the way blui we dont have diesel motors in America when it comes to the Lexus IS series. Congrats on that and all that extra torque!!! More smoke coming out the tail light now?

You guys are crazy! lol No manual transmission, no Diesels?

The world economy is crazy, just googled the current exchange rate, we pay $2.41 per litre of fuel Thats $9.11 per American Gallon i think!

FlyAudio units retail here for $3212

Anyway, most of our cars are Diesel. Certainly most of the Lexus are Diesel. Seen very few Petrol engines as they are considered less economical than Diesels and with our fuel prices etc thats a huge consideration.

Costs me $144 to fill my Lexus IS220d up each time!
