Default Halogens or HIDS?

Hey all,

So I am thinking of buying an HID kit and tearing into my front end to put in some sweet looking lights, however, I was wanting to know if certain halogen bulbs could come close to the look/brightness that HIDS have.

If I can come close to the bright white (maybe blue-ish) look that HID's have with Halogen bulbs, I would rather just switch out bulbs than create a big project for myself.

Does anyone have any advice, information, or pictures of their HID's Vs. Halogen light setup?

Thanks a ton!

Hmm, with color you may come close but in terms of output lumen, it's more like night and day difference.

If you want to have a proper beam pattern, I would recommend projectors too.

You're talking bout the low beam rite? Sewell does have a HID headlamps you could get. Other members are more familiar with that.

HIDs have much better light output and brightness compared to halogens.

Installing a HID kit is not hard to do. Theres even a DIY thread that can help you step by step. For your needs, I would recommend a 6K HID kit

To give you an idea of the light output, check these pictures out.

Im on the left and have 6K low beams and 3K fogs. My friend has 6K low beams but halogen bulbs in his fogs for his Accord. See the difference?

Downtuned: A halogen bulb may get you closer to the color of HIDs however the color will never be the same nor will the light output be as useful. The last thing you want to do is use a higher wattage halogen bulb to attempt and get more light output as these bulbs burn hotter and may damage your vehicle.

Are you looking at upgrading the low beams or fog lights on your vehicle?

Default thanks!

thanks, I do see the difference in brightness/texture on the Halogen vs HID, and I am thinking I would really want to do the HID's.

Xenondepot, I was thinking of Upgrading both, based on the cost and Manpower involved. However I am kind of Naive when it comes to both

Does anyone have a good guide on prices and installation of a project like this for an 06 is250?

Dont pay someone to install them for you, its honestly very simple to do.

I would recommend xenondepots HID kits though, theyre great. I have their 6K volt kit for my low beams in those pictures.

Once you go HID's you can't go back even with halogens. If you want oem look with most brightness, go with 4300K kit. Thumbs up for xenon depot. I recently installed this on 2011 MB E350 and it seems like a quality kit. No more cheap ebay kits that blows after few months

perfect. I heard the fogs are much harder to install than the low beams. is this true?

And will i need to take off my front bumper to install the lights? Thanks.

Once I get ready to make my purchase, I will check out Xenondepot for sure.

You dont have to remove your bumper, you can go through the fender liner. It is much easier IMO to remove your bumper tho

Ok, i will consider doing that then.

Xenondepot, if I bought a kit from you, does it come with installation instructions?

Downtuned: I would be more than happy to give you a call to discuss the installation prior to purchase so that you can make an educated decision.
