I guess you can ASK your service adviser when you get in, but I have never had them charge me for gas or refill my gas automatically and then charge me for it. Maybe states have a different policy? I'm in California. And I'm a girl. That might help. =)

It's not really Lexus screwing up the design, its really more of a side effect with Direct Injection motors. Lexus doesn't have the only DI motor that has carbon build up issues. If you do a quick google search for "Direct Injection Carbon Build Up" you'll come across complaints from all sorts of different cars that use similar tech. So I'd say the question is more of "Why did Lexus use Direct Injection?"

I had the "check engine" misfire code pop up a few months ago, as it does sporadically, but it disappeared after a few days of driving. The question is does anyone know any tricks to bring up the misfire code again so that I can show the dealership that it's time to order the parts for the recall. I guess the sooner the parts replacement is done the better.

There are a good number of members here that haven't had the issue with a good amount of miles on the car. For the most part though, it seems to be an issue that any IS250 can have under the right situations. Driving the car hard seems to be one of the ways to help keep the issue from occurring so soon.

Someone mentioned that the codes are stored in memory, even if they go away. If that is in fact the case, you should be ale to take it to the dealer now and have them check past codes.

Took my car in today for the test and sure enough I was approved for the repair. Well, I was little suprised to see 17 to 18 weeks wait for the parts arrive 
I have no issues so far but took it in anyways since I work close to my local Lexus dealership.

Welllllll, drag engines only have to last less than 1 minute. The engine I rebuild has to last you a lifetime. Big difference. And yes, I do both. And nobody does it in 4-5 hours, too much maticulous cleaning to do plus sealant has to dry before you can proceed with some steps. As for tag teaming this job, I refuse to do that, too many chances for something to be left out. I've seen some guys tag team it, they've had come backs. I've done 21 of these so far and starting another one tomorrow, zero comebacks for me so far. Takes me a day and a half by myself.

Just spoke to my SA ....
Looks like the rumors about there being a 9 year warranty for the carbon build up issue may no longer be just rumors. He confirmed they are extending the warranty to 9 years/unlimited miles for the Carbon Build up issue through a CSP (Customer Support Program..I believe it was). Letters should be getting mailed out soon to us 250 owners with more details once everything is finalized.
It covers piston replacement and apparently top engine cleans (for those that already have revised pistons) for the 9 years. There's also apparently a revision to how the dealers themselves are supposed to diagnose/recognize the issue, though I couldn't confirm what those revisions might be.
So not a fix, but at least its better than nothing

I even check on the lexus drivers site and found no mention of this under Safety program.Only the wiper blade nut issue is there.

To my knowledge and from what my Lexus service adviser told me, he said that the new pistons have less of a gap preventing oil from leaking to the top of the valves and thus less chance of carbon build-up.
On another note, I'm still waiting for my parts to arrive before I bring my car in to get this issue resolved. But in the mean time, I'm in love with how my car drives again after the top engine clean. Idles as smooth as butter, no rough idling or vibrations at all. And I used to get 26-27 mpg driving 50/50 highway/city, but now I'm getting around 29 mpg.
On another note, I'm still waiting for my parts to arrive before I bring my car in to get this issue resolved. I love revving my IS250 right now. Would not want to give that up for a rough idle once in 6 months or so.

2007 IS250 RWD: I think I experienced my first rough idle at 73030 miles on the odometer.
I just had a full tank so I started driving with the paddles on the freeway. I was mostly in 4th gear to hear the exhaust note(F-sport exhaust). I was heading for the beach and the first stoplight I stopped at made my exhaust note disappear. I noticed cause of the F-Sport exhaust I had. The sound at idle just went silent and I even had music on at around 10-12 volume. The tachometer was even bouncing and I reacted as this might be it. so I threw it in neutral. then it went green.
After this I turned my music off and kept it in normal drive. I did not go to the beach anymore I ended up driving around the area to see if it would happen again but IT DIDN'T.
just to share this and more facts about this:
1. I still love this car if it keeps doing this or not.
2. No car is perfect, My family owned toyotas before and had some minor defects that toyota fixed and after that we still kept the cars.
3. I actually want it to happen again so I can bring it to Lexus and they can't deny fixing my car.
4. I want it over with because my job might require me to drive across the country to virginia in April and I want to use this car for my first documented road trip.

Just got mine back a week ago. They came on a Saturday morning, dropped off a loaner IS and took it for four days. Got new pistons, rods, rings, gaskets, and got the carbon buildup cleaned out. They washed and vacuumed her too. Guy even wrote all my radio stations down and reprogrammed my radio. She purrs a little bit quieter now, and the idle is much smoother, no random drops in rpm on idle that makes the engine think its choking. lol

Top engine clean experience at Lexus Dealer
I have 2008 IS 250 with just 21,000 miles. Purchased as CPO in July 2012. Brought in for first service last week and mentioned I get the rough idle about 2-3 times a month. Really not that big of a deal. I
brought in a copy of the CSP and gave it to service advisor. He said they would check it out.
I had no codes or warning lights on when I brought the car in. The service advisor called me back at
the end of the day and told me that they had gotten the P030 code misfire code. He said they would keep it for a few days and were doing a top engine clean. I got the car back this weekend and all seems well so far. My car always ran great except for the few rough idle incidents so I was hoping that it would still be running good when I got it back. It seems fine. Actually feels and runs better than the 2012 IS 250 they gave me as a loaner.
Service advisor informed me that if I still got the occasional rouge idle I should bring it back and they would do the next step. He mentioned piston replacement. All in all I am happy with the way Lexus dealer handled this. I've got a case number and it is now a known issue with my car with Lexus. Incidentally, I have never received the CSP letter from Lexus and I do finance through Lexus so they
know where to find me. Dealer didn't even ask for it.
