My Job Was done In 2 days, No questions asked, But I did have to pay $61.00. I am assuming it was for the oil. I know normally when I go there for an oil change they use a synthetic blend and it is about the same amount of money.

Could this carbon build up cause excessive oil consumption?? I ask cuz when I told lexus that i was losing oil, they kept replacing my pcv valve saying its clogged. 3 times over 2 years?? could it have been clogged due to the carbon build up and hence burning more oil??

Yes it can. Diagnostic Procedure B of the original piston replacement TSIB uses oil consumption as a diagnostic measure for the issue. I believe if you are losing 1 qt of oil or more in 1,200 miles - the piston replacement TSIB can be applied as that is a sign of the issue.

What you've described is consistent with a carbon caused misfire. not just "vibrations." no one else should take that critically......just thought i'd point out how an is250 owner would describe the condition in their own words.
some things you should know.
1. it's very interesting they are asking for diag time. you must not have another dealership near you. most dealerships would be more than happy to check out a car for free that will likely need a $7000 warranty repair. you can haggle with your dealership or just call another one and make sure they're willing to take your potentially very profitable business.
2. codes are not needed. not at all. the bottom line is, unless your check engine light actually came on, it's not likely that any codes will be stored. Some people like to check something a lot more in depth called the misfire monitor. it's complicated to explain how it works, but the bottom line is that it will store a misfire history for an extended period of time. Although this is usually looked at, it's still not needed to perform the CSP.
3. at 78k, you will have needed to have you spark plugs changed at some point (due at 60k). they will also need to be the correct kind. aftermarket shops and even toyota dealerships are notorious for installing the wrong plugs because the direct injection GR motors take different plugs than the normal GR motors. Hopefully, you will have had them replaced at a lexus dealer so the history with the spark plug part number will be available. if you replaced them yourself, the technician will need to pull one out and verify it's the right part number. there's also a certain marking on only the factory installed plugs so they can tell if it's been replaced.
If you have not had spark plugs replaced, you will need to have it done. they can install new plugs and then do they misfire duplication procedure. new plugs will not affect the chances of a true carbon caused misfire to happen. even if they couldn't duplicate it.....welll.....you were overdue for plugs anyways.

Very interesting. I just called my dealer, and they gave me the same story on the codes. First they said they had to replicate the issue, but I asked if its "intermittent" how can they replicate it? And they said that if there is misfire, there will be codes stored. There is a post on one of the previous pages where the dealer took a camera to check on the carbon build up--good advice. I might try that if they say they can't replicate the issue. I had the same experience for 4.8 years on the cam gear TSB--until they finally replicated the issue 3 months before my warranty expired.

07is250 awd in Canada, I just had the top engine clean done under warranty. I was told that there is no CSP that would apply to Canadian is250s. Strange...hope not to experience the rough idle again, I am only driving her hard occasionally.

my God, I have lost count of how many times I've dealt with this.

Ive been reading through this thread for the past few days, I picked up my IS250 2 weeks ago. I have an 2006 with 57000 miles. Im encroaching on 72 months (I think that is the monthly limit, but I could be wrong) would I be covered? And I am also curious if the previous owner had it done.

Anybody have any idea how Lexus is deciding who gets the notices when? I have an 08 and had the top end cleaning 2 years ago but I would like to get a copy of this (from Lexus) to have around when the shakin' starts up again. In any case when the car hits 9 years bye- bye.
