06 is350 transmission shifts hard
I have a 06 is350 with 64,xxx miles. When it shifts gears it shifts hard all the time. Is there a common problem with them? No the etc power button is not on

I got it when it had about 59,xxx miles and it always did that. I never really though about it till now. I always drove manual cars and a Altima with a cvt transmission that never feels shifts. Till now that I drove other automatic cars that shift really smoother than my Lexus.

Try to reset it. Also as others have asked did it just start? The only time mine is anything other than smooth is under the following two conditions.
1) doing a non complete stop and then accelerating. IS stop and go traffic. Its not sure if it should downshift to first or stay in second.
2) Applying the brake when doing down a steeper incline in 6th it will downshift to 4th to use engine braking and sometimes that is a less than smooth transition.

This used to be true, it stopped being true maybe a year, year and a half ago.
It is considered a sealed unit, and the owners manual explicitly states it does not, and never should, have the fluid changed.
And up until like 12-18 months ago it was physically impossible to change more than maybe 10-15% of the fluid (and that much only by dropping the pan).
But around that time a company came out with a unit that, if you disconnect the heat exchange unit, unbolt it and remove it from the car, and replace it with their special adapter, and then hook that special adapter up to a special machine, is then capable of actually changing the fluid.... after which you unhook the machine, unbolt the special adapter, then re-install the heat exchange unit and hook its lines back up.
I imagine most dealers if you tell em you want to pay for a tranny fluid change won't do all that, they'll just change the 1 quart you can get out with the drain plug, leaving 90% old fluid in there, and charge you for a fluid change anyway.
And it's still something Lexus explicitly recommends against doing, but it's now physically possible at least.
