Lexus IS250 Integrated with iPhone 4 + Nintendo Games (Legend of Zelda / Super Mario)
Playing retro games everywhere! Also a quick demo of using Waze...
This is a Flyaudio navigation system for the Lexus IS250/IS350. If you have an OEM, i believe the vaistech RCA adapter also works. http://www.vaistech.com/dev/sl2vu.php
Hardware
- A Lexus
- Flyaudio Navigation System for IS250/350
- iPhone 4 (Jailbroken)
- Scosche RCA Composite Audio/Video cable
Software
- Displayout (Jailbreak required)
- NES.emu (Jailbreak required)
I have an iPhone 4 which does not allow mirroring but you can use DisplayOut to mirror to HDMI, VGA, or RCA. I forced Landscape orientation which is not necessary. It can be set to "Follow Interface." You can use any navigation software that is available on the iPhone, play games or movies (Netflix, Youtube, etc). I like to use Waze when there is heavy traffic.
For the Nintendo games I used an emulator called NES.emu. My iPhone can also play SNES, Sega Genesis, Turbo Grafx 16, Gameboy Advance, MAME Arcade, etc. The iPhone 4 struggles to mirror games that are 16 bit or higher, so I loaded an NES emulator as the sample. An iPhone 4s should be strong enough to mirror the other emulators easily. My iPad 2 can mirror onto the screen but that is kind of useless since my iPad has a larger screen than the navigation system. Depending on the emulator, you can connect up to 4 wii classic remotes.
If you have an Android device you can connect a PS3 Sixaxis controller instead of a Wii mote. I'm still waiting for the day I can connect my iOS devices to a PS3 Sixaxis controller. There are also a small hand full of bluetooth controllers that may work.
Overall, a fun setup for old school classic video games on the road or at home.

You might have to root your device. Look up the NES emulator (or which ever) and see if you can download the app. I know the PS3 Sixaxis connection requires root for sure. That's the most complicated part.
Otherwise it's just a device to RCA plug. The wii mote works natively with many game emulators. You just press the scan button and pair the wii mote
