Default JLC Plama LED Turn Signal Lights

Just installed the new JLC Plasma LEDs tonight. Only had time to do a quick video during the night since it was late but will have a video of the day soon.

Initial notes and impressions:
- Omnidirectional for solid and even distribution of light within the housing.
- Distributes light better than JLC's CREE solution (no more hotspot/flashlight effect).
- Produces about 1/2 the amount of heat in comparison to stock bulbs therefore it can be used as brake and tail lights for other vehicles.

Note: Was using cell cam, since hd camera was out of battery, so video quality not as good.

I got the LED's from JLC.

The one for the IS is this the 7443/7440 type. As with LED being used with turn signals, it will require a turn signal relay for LED or load resistors, or modifying stock flasher.

The white one has the best output. The amber one which I also tried (no video), would need some work and going to ask JLC about it since its lumen out was not bright enough such that the stock bulb has more output. Technically red and amber are hard to make bright while, while and blue are the easy to make bright.

Thanks for the info what did you use a load resistor or relay? And where did you get it?

I used this relay from VLED.

I'm only using it in the meantime and eventually will use a modified stock flasher which I am doing in the works but cannot work on it until all the LED's are installed.

As promised. Here is the day video.

It has white vs amber vs stock. It may appear the stock amber is brighter because it looks like its radiating out of the housing but it's is really the white one and notice how much cleaner is shines out of the housing.

Best viewed in 720p HD.

I would never run white turn signals, especially on the rear of a car. Red or amber only please (as per regulations and normal driving ettiquette).

The amber looks good, though the normal bulbs do seem brighter from the video. How is it in real life? (Amber Plasma LED vs. Amber Bulb)?

I thought 2011+ models by default came with the GREEN LED OEM relay flasher because of the headlights?

Will these bulbs require something stronger? The stock one is 8prong

In RL, the amber plasma is not as bright than the amber bulb and white plasma. It would not make it as ideal as it appears dull as shown in the video against the amber bulb and white plasma. If the amber plasma was as bright as the white version, I would of selected it over white. Amber and red is difficult to make bright because of the nature of the LED as opposed to white and blue which are easiest to make bright.

In terms of Amber bulb vs white, the white has better light output and looks cleaner light coming out of the housing while the amber looks appears to be brighter but it's just scattering the the light outside the housing giving that illusion of it being brighter.

I have been running white turn signals in the rears for months and no issues ever came from it. I should be able to have them in the front this time then it will be all white. At least I still have the amber turn signal mirrors. The white maybe pushing regulations but there are euro cars which is also running white LEDs as well from what I have heard.

None of the stock flashers is designed for LED. 2011+ models don't use the green relay because the green one is for the 2010 cars and earlier which have 6 bulbs. The stock one (made in Japan) is a beige light brown which is designed for 4 bulbs while the US made one is a dark brown one.

I am sorry I meant to ask if the 2011+ came with the brown LED flash relay. When I upgraded my 2007 to the 2012 headlights I was forced to purchase a brown LED flash relay that they told me comes on the 2011+ and would stop my blinkers from flashing funny..

What I am trying to get at is why did you have to modify your stock relay if it already comes ready for LED? Is it not strong enough or something?

If you mean the dark brown one no because the cars from the factory come with the beige light brown one which is made in Japan. The dark brown own is a US made one. Japan's part number is 81980-30170 which is available only in Japan.

I am currently using VLED's turn signal relay to work with LED. My ideal way is to use a stock turn signal relay and modify it such that it will work with LED. That's what I mean because I bought a stock relay (US one), and took out the original resistor. Until I have all 4 LED's in I cannot rest out resistors yet since it would not be correct in finding the values until then.

The reason I want to modify the original relay is because the VLED's have this slightly longer first flash then flashes normally after that. Using a stock relay, you don't have that.

None of the stock flashers (meaning the dark brown as well) is designed for LED.

You may of seen pictures of the original number on the flashers which saids its for LED which actually means that its designed to work in in the orignal part's place. Sort of confusing that the aftermarket uses the same number as stock.
