Bump! Need some help from you guys who successfully installed the relay for their headlights. I'm about to do this project on sunday and was hoping you guys can help me out here.

I took a picture of the wires connecting to the LED board. I'm going to be using the wires from there directly to the relay since I did not buy mine from Sewell (pre-wired).



So to recap with the Relay wiring:

IGN2 wire ---------> Pin 30
Green wire -------> Pin 87a
Black wire --------> Pin 87
Ground source ----> Pin 85 (Wired to the chasis / clean metal body frame)
Parking Lamp -----> Pin 86 (This is where i'm lost...)

My question is, which wire is the Parking Lamp? Do I directly tap in the Parking Lamp wire? If so which colour is it?


Any help will be appreciated!

Why don't you tap to the low beam wire, and that the way factory set up, parking light still 100% bright and when low beam on it switch to 50%

If you repin them like the sewells lights then you can follow the instructions in this thread. I repinned my non-sewells light and it worked exactly like sewells light. Here is the link to how you need to repin your harnesses:

I don't know the color of the low beam wire, but it not hard to find, you can start trace the red wire from the ballast go to the harness on the light and you would know which one for the low beam and tap on that one or for a safe side use the electronic meter or tester and turn the low beam switch on from the car and go back to the wire harness plug (the one is connect to the headlight plug harness) and test every single wire until you see the Hot wire, good luck

For future reference for other members who plans to go OEM wiring route, like737NG mentioned, if you didn't buy the headlights from Sewell, you must rewire the pins in order to work with the Relay. It will not work if you only cut the green and black wire from the LED board..

Also ohios350 mentioned to directly tap into the low beam wire. I used the voltmeter and found out the BLUE wire is the one you need to tap into.

Planning to do this mod this month - can I just confirm that to tap the "parking lights", I just tap the part of the green wire from the 100% LED's still attached to the harness?

I used a 12v test light. Once the old head lights are removed and disconnected. I turned on the parking lamps. Checked the pins in the harness to see which one had 12v (the light will light up on the test light) Then turned off the parking lamps to confirm that same pin had no power. That will be the wire you tap into. You can then plug the harness back in and confirm the correct color wire to tap into. you can tap into either harness the one on the headlight will be easier than the one on the car.

Sorry for bumping the old thread. I'm planning to change out my headlights this weekend (hopefully). I've read through most of the threads discussing headlights, which can obviously be confusing especially the older ones. I just want to clarify a couple things I'm still not sure about.

1. Using the relay as detailed in the OP, does that make the LED on all of the time when the car is on? Even when in auto mode during daylight? This is my understanding if the LED is wired to IGN2, however some posts seem to indicate otherwise.
2. Is it better to use IGN2 or the fuel pump resistor to power the LED? I see mentions of both ways but don't understand the pros/cons.
