Default IS250 AWD Transfer Case Questions...

Before I begin, I'm not asking to be challenged on the possibilities of installing a turbo on my IS250. I friend of mine owns a prominent company that makes fuel systems for Camaro/Mustang/Mopar products and is up to the task of helping me turbo my IS.

We've figured out the ECU issue and have a general idea of what we'll have to fabricate to get the Squires universal turbo kit mounted and going. The last piece of the puzzle (so far) is the transfer case.

My question:

Can the IS250 transfer case and transmission safely support horsepower beyond 300hp? If not, can the IS350 transfer case and tranny be swapped in? Is there that much of a difference between the IS350 AWD transfer case and tranny and that of the IS250?

My friend, his company and his shop are an invaluable resource to me and I'm looking forward to a little boost to add some more go to my IS250! Thanks!

I don't think anyone has a definite answer cause no one has gotten their IS250 over 300HP yet from what I know. What kind of work do you plan to do on the motor to go beyond 300? Members like Kurtz or Jeff Lange might have some feedback.

From what I know, the transmission is the same between the 250 and 350. So it shouldn't really be a major issue....but for the cost of doing all that, and the risk, why not just sell the 250 and trade in for a 350 AWD?

Always the cost factor... Squires turbo, new exhaust, controller and some odds and ends won't break the bank. Plus with Steve Matusek (of Aeromotive) on board for this project, labor isn't a factor at all! Just gotta have a game plan!

Please document the build... as I suppose you know every single person who has come up with 2 posts to their name and claiming they're gonna do a turbo system has begun with optimism and big promises (and often some tuner company working with them) and eventually vanished with nothing practical to show for it... so if yours is the first in 7 years to actually work it'd be nice to see the details and I wish you the best of luck. Quite curious to know what you've come up with that everyone else in those 7 years was unable to.

All that said, the A760H used in the AWD 250 is also used in the AWD GS350 (and I'd assume the AWD IS350 but can't find a cite on that at the moment) so you should be fine at least to 350 power levels (which would be considerably more than anyone else has ever managed with forced induction on a 250). So if you're just gonna run the same 5-7 psi all the supercharger guys have been managing for years you'll only be adding 50-70 hp and should be more than fine.

Beyond that (306ish hp, 277ish torque), if you think you'll somehow get beyond that, I don't think anyone can really say other than to say Toyota usually builds decent safety margins into their stuff, so I'd imagine at minimum 350hp/300 torque remains safe... though honestly nobody expect you to make anywhere near that.

I appreciate the info. Just for the record, Aeromotive isn't a tuner shop. It's an aftermarket fuel system company owned by NHRA pro Steve Matusek. We are gonna try our best to make this a reality without tearing up my car. Should be fun!

It's gonna require a lot of $$ and research if you are really going to try this and give it 110%, but if you pull it off in the end with a successful build that will be an epic win!
