Default Tom's rear lip doesn't fit on my car !? (IS350 2007)

Hi there, I would like to receive some info about people who installed a Tom's rear lip on their IS IS250-IS350.

I just bought mine from Assaultech Performance last month. It's the first Tom's model (not quads).

I decided to go to a bodyshop to install it. After painting it they called me today to say that the lip doesn't fit AT ALL. That there's a gab of 10 cm each side. I didn't saw it (I will go later today) but from what they said it's awful.

So I think there's not even any replica model for this lip so it is supposed to be the same lip as everybody here and my car is a 2007 IS350. Did some of you have ever heard about problem to install this lip ? Anything to do with that ?

Tom's owner I need your help.

yikes! no one thought to dry fit it before painting?

i've heard that they fit better once a little massaging is done but 20cm total sounds cray-cray

what is massaging ?

The lip was painted already, but they need to paint it again cause it was not the good color. I'm not sure if this lip was on a car before.

Whoa, something is wrong if there's 10cm off on each side. Authentic Tom's rear lip should fit like a glove! I would go to the bodyshop and check it out yourself, if it's really that far off, contact the place where you bought it from.

After going to the bodyshop for my car i just realised... OMG that my lip is the TOM'S for 09+. I asked for the dual exhaust but when I received it I didn't pay attention and bring it directly to the body shop like this. So that explain the trouble.

So what to do with this now ?

There's big gaps everywhere

2009 tom's will fit the same as the 2006 one. only the front bumper is different, so the year for which the rear lip is made won't affect how it fits.

Is that really a authentic TOM'S rear? the '09+ rear should fit on '06 - '10 model year.

I installed myself a '06+ TOM'S rear on my '09 and fitment is spot on!

Bring it to another bodyshop.

Edit: Where is the weather stripping? The bodyshop should put it on with the lip too.

I agree with what others have said, fitment should be spot on if it is authentic. Stock IS rear bumpers are all the same. Did you inspect the bumper when it was delivered? Did you test fit the bumper before or at the body shop to see if there need to be any adjustments before it went into paint?

Maybe the bumper was "warped" or damaged in transit? I have done business in the past with assaultech and their customer service is awesome. You should give them a call to make sure they sent you the correct bumper. Good luck.

Too big is better than too small right? Can't they heat treat it to shrink?

thats a tom's 09 rear lip. you need to cut a larger opening around the exhaust for the lip to sit right.

pchan0 what do you mean by that "Where is the weather stripping?"
Sorry my english isn't perfect (I'm from Québec).

I also don't understand why there's such big gaps. The bodyshop told me they will try to fit it if I take another appointment. Maybe the sun will help to fit it but they said they are not sure.

I'm not 100% sure it's a authentic lip but from what I know there's no TOM'S replica ?
and Assaultech Performance never talked about a rep.

That is a HORRIBLE install job. I would take it back. There should be no gap.

Hm, did they give it to you like that? If so, demand a refund. You can do a better job yourself, anyone can.
Is it sitting too low? Maybe it'll fill up more if you push the lip up (as in away from the ground).
