engine needs 18k in repairs, lexus won't cover

So a little bittersweet..but after reading this thread I decided to run out to my car at night, with a headlamp, to check the coolant reservoir. Sure enough, I noticed pink dry residue on the reservoir and below it. I immediately scheduled a service appointment and they called me a few hours after dropping it off and said there was a leak and the water pump needed to be replaced. It is all covered under my Extra Care. This thread might have saved me the same drama.
Incidentally there was also a clattering noise that I asked them to look at, turns out there was a loose pin in the intake cam that was causing a dry start, which they are also fixing.
Good luck to all of you.

I had a positive experience with Lexus customer service when they covered replacing the worn out seat belts in my inherited 14 year old LS400 with 150k miles. The OP's story does scare me though...I live too far from a Lexus dealer to get the regular maintenance done there. Maybe taking it to the Toyota dealer will cover me somewhat?

It might be time to seek some legal advice. A quick meeting with a lawyer that specializes in the field will let you know your official position. Spending a few hundred bucks to have a lawyer write a letter to Lexus may help your cause, especially if you have all of your receipts to show that you performed all required maintenance since you moved to a different service center.

Did you trying speaking with the manager/supervisor of Lexus HQ?
How about the manager of the dealership?
Sorry, didn't have a chance to read all of the post. There should be some spark notes

Yes, I've spoken with management and decision makers within Extra Care, customer service (HQ), and regional managers of the dealers. They've all told me the same story about how my case has been reviewed from top to bottom and they're sorry. I'm currently looking into legal advice.

Lexus (along with Toyota, and Scion) do not participate in the BBB's Auto Line program so the BBB doesn't act as an arbiter with them. I contacted the FTC as well. They don't handle individual cases and only get involved if there's a trend or reoccurring issue. I filed a complaint with both of them anyway.

Do you know this as a fact? Or are those that have had an issue with the water pump disproportionately represented on this site? I suspect the latter. My IS is six years old and I just had my oil changed, I asked dealer to specifically check on the pump and SA said no issues on my car and said there were no issues he was aware of regarding IS water pumps. Take it for what it is worth.

mine at 53k.....take I haven't had a need to change a water pump on any of my family current of past cars until 100k miles or more.
Then again I guess we are all disproportionately representing the Lexus brand.
I also started the thread bellow just to see how many of us had premature pump failure.
