Should I just ride it out or this a sign that I got lucky? Keep up with status quo? Increase the fuel injector cleaner (I pour the bottle in every 3-6 months) and/or up to 91 octane? I drive a ton of miles (25K a year), I'm at 150K, Car has been perfect for me other than the water pump going bad... and this. Thoughts? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
.
Im still stuck on why you wait to change oil every 10k. Maybe thats just me.

10k is the recommended oil change interval for synthetics. Some do recommend changing the filter after 5k.

As other have said the required fuel is premium. It isn't suggested. Lexus has no incentive to tell you to use premium fuel if it isn't required based on the design of the engine.

Sounds like if you don't want the carbon build up problem, you should be using 87 octane lol

High compression engines and 87 octane are a bad combination, is there any proof that an Italian tune up (redline) helps to prevent carbon build up?

Says on the inside of the gas door "Premium Unleaded Fuels Only" its not a recommendation its a requirement. Our engines are such high compression you need the best fuels you can get. This is Lexus guys.. we're not rolling around in Hyundai's. Spend the extra couple bucks for the good stuff.

i'm surprised your car even lasted you this long. glad you saved $2/tank on 87 octane gas.

182,000 miles of filling it up with 87 (mostly Chevron or Shell) and my car is finally getting the carbon buildup problem taken care of. Never left me stranded, haven't spent a penny outside of normal maintenance (not by the dealer), and lexus corporate is covering me for life for the piston problem. I feel 100% fine with my 87 decision.

Thanks to the people who had constructive comments. Others? Not so much.

The octane levels of the fuel one uses is irrelevant to the carbon build-up issue. Strange that this is so frequently misunderstood.
