Just get a 2013 Mustang GT500...the new hp put it in the 200mph class. Of course at that speed it drinks a gallon of fuel every 2 or 3 miles....

Not much of a mustang fan anymore but I do like how the brought back the 5.0 also love the look on the face of 4.6 GT drivers as they get spanked by a little white Lexus 350...

I would definitely just trade it in for a IS-F. Most your mods u can easily bring over, and you would still have basically the same car with more *****, you won't lose any of the luxury features you have grown to love, and you would definitely save money and headaches vs taking a chance of doing the swap and have a unreliable car. A used IS-F are in the 30-40k range nowadays

500 is pretty f'ing useless on the street- especially with a 2WD vehicle.

I say this as someone who sold his 500 hp RWD car to buy his IS350.

It's a game of very very diminishing returns- see also how the IS350 with a ~100 hp jump is massively faster than the 250 from 0-60 or 0-100... but the IS-F, with another ~100 hp jump, is only a little bit faster 0-60 or 0-100 than the IS350. Add yet another 100 (to put you around 5) and the difference would be nearly 0 in street use.

(or to bring up the old Supra joke... what do a 400 hp supra and a 600 hp supra have in common? They both run 12s.)

I see what you saying. But I'm talkn bout 500hp driving around town stop n go traffic not being such a pita a D/D. but 1/4 mile 200 hp more is a big diff.almost 2sec.

If you need a 500hp car, you bought the wrong one. If you want to go fast, just get a bike. You can get a great bike for under 10 and it'll more than fast enough for you.

Get the ISF, put all bolts on and u get 500 hp , and best of all 8 speed sequential paddle shifter. If still heavy car u can also get lighter wheels, wider tires, coils, rear sway. Get rid of the spare tires, tools. If u can reduce to about 3300 to 3400 lbs then Nothing better than a natural aspirated engine. The sounds and power are awesome, IMHIK lolz.

yes, and 500 hp is utterly useless for that. You're not generally going above 60 there. Again majorly diminishing returns

For example:

IS250 0-60 in 7.4 seconds (~200 hp)
IS350 0-60 in 4.9 seconds (~300 hp)
IS-F 0-60 in 4.5 seconds (~400 hp)
GT500 0-60 in 4.1 seconds (~550 hp- the 2011 one)

So the first time you add 100 hp you're 1.5 seconds quicker. The second time you're less than half a second quicker. To get not quite another 0.5 quicker you're needing to add 150 hp.

(I understand there's other differences between the GT500 and the ISes but since they don't make a 500 hp IS you're going to have those differences anyway)

And bear in mind- those GT500 times especially are on expensive tires on a prepared track in perfect weather.

On a normal day on a normal street you floor the GT500 with traction control off and you're not going to move at all. You'll just sit there burning tire rubber off the expensive 20" tires.

Again- this is why I sold my 500 hp car. The extra hp is completely useless in normal daily driving, especially 2WD.

(there's a reason the GT-R is AWD)

Not really.... IS350 1/4 mile is in the 13.3 range.... The IS-F around 12.7...GT500 1/4 mile is about 12.4.

That's about a half second faster for 100 hp... and only roughly 1 second faster for 200 AND 50 more hp... and going over 100 mph in both cases so well beyond what a daily-driver stop and go car is doing.

Seriously, diminishing returns, lack of traction. These are real things.

Get an IS-F, put on headers, intake, and exhaust, and you'll be as quick as it makes any sense to be in a 2WD car unless you plan to run drag radials on the street (in which case your car is now useless in rain and you'll be buying new tires every 5-8 thousand miles, but could actually get a bit more power down)

I know that in my cammed GTO with full bolt-on's traction was always a problem. It sure felt good going sideways from a dig, but not much use in the real world of racing. And it had 500 hp at the flywheel...

I think Kurtz is right....there is a point where hp is just for bragging rights...at least on the street without major traction components.

I know i'm enjoying my little 306hp IS350. Plus getting close to 30 mpg on the hwy!

I say do the swap. Be the second guy to do it. I'm sure you've weighed getting an is-f and know its an option, but i like when people do what they want as crazy as it may sound. Some people aren't after the best dollar per horsepower, the best off the shelf power, or having the same car as others. And if you've been in the 2jz world, maybe you just miss it.

Do it. Document it. Sell the info to help others.

Or get another car

to go from a IS350 to 2JZ to me is not really worth the money even as a project just to say you have one...stock twins wont be much difference from what you have now...actually about the same to the wheel plus the 2J is going to give you way lower mpg if it is your daily driver. If you go single turbo and turn up the boost to maybe 26 to make relevant horsepower to run with the IS-F then at that point your car is not a daily driver while the IS-F is...so it really depends on is it makes sense to you financially and if you want a 15mpg daily driver.

on the other hand going from a 250 to the 2JZ is a great deal for power difference YES and I'm considering doing to to mine because I already have the motor from my 2GS but its gonna cost a lot to wire it up and not worth it I dont think

Has anyone tried swapping the IS350 motor into an IS300?! That sounds like bawls to the wall fun to me!
