Hey guys I was thinking about getting a Manual IS250 in SFP 2006.
Are these rare, Anyone else out there?
And would you guys suggest getting Manual over Automatic? Any down-sides of manual over auto besides worse MPG?

They are definitely rare. I looked for over a year to find mine (a 2011). A blast to drive though and i absolutely love it. You won't be disappointed but don't wait too long

To get from point A to point B? About an hour or two.
To get from point A to point B with consistent clean shifts and no stalling? At least a couple weeks of driving a stick.

Based on Lexus' published numbers, the auto gets better mpg than the MT.

I've had a stick IS250 for about a year and a half now, and I've NEVER seen another one on the road.

You’re going to get mixed feelings about this subject on this forum. The best advice I can give you is to drive both of them.

I personally have a 6MT and I love it, my sister has an automatic 250 and I drive it around sometimes when I do maintenance to it and I find the automatic plain boring.

Also I did drive a 350 before I bought my 6MT and yes the car is a lot faster but still boring to me. I also chose the 6MT as if I want to go for a nice drive in little sleeper of a car I just dust of my Integra and take her on a “Little” drive.

about an hour of dicking around in a parking lot. it's not that hard, you just need to get over the anxiety of your first trip into traffic.

Honestly if this is going to be ur first stick car then I'd say search around but if your looking for speed ur going to be disappointed when you realize how slow it is...it's like driving a civic just smoother shifts....Hense you can double clutch all day long your still not getting to 60 before 7.8 seconds lol...so just get the auto and just cruise...."low and slow" lol

Manual sales are something like 3% of all 2IS sales IIRC....so fairly rare.

One reason is the manual isn't very good, and gets inferior mileage to the auto.


Also worth noting- I've seen probably half a dozen threads of people with manuals having to get their replaced (mostly under warranty) and a bunch more having other issues with em without replacement.


I think I've seen one, ever, of an automatic being replaced.

And that's with autos being 97% of all the cars.


So while it's anecdotal it suggests you're a lot more likely to have transmission problems in the future with the manual.

I could have sworn that I heard something about the manual transmition in our cars sharing components with a Toyota truck? The Tundra or Tacomoa maybe?
