Default High pitch whistling/whining sound

Good morning CL, I have recently discovered a new problem with my IS250 2008 AWD. Whenever I turn on my car in the morning, there's a high pitch whistling/whining sound that is continuously on until maybe after 5 miles of driving. After that it stays off until the end of my trip, but as I turn the car on and off it won't repeat the noise because I'm assuming that the engine is warmed up or something. Then if i leave the car for about 4 hours until my lunch time, it will occur again. I'm new to cars and its my first car so i have no idea whats wrong and whether something like this would be covered in the powertrain warranty since i have 61000 miles. Thanks for the help!

Hmmmm, sounds like it could be the belt or pulley/tensioner.

No i think i know which sound you are referring to and thats the clicking sound of the engine which i found to be irritating in the beginning but i've gotten use to over time. This high pitched sound came recently. I'll try to get a video or sound file up for everyone to hear. Thanks!

Got ya....just take it into the dealer, that should be covered under powertrain warranty.
Those aren't wear and tear items like brakes or tires u kno

Ok i called the dealer and they are saying that it sounds like the drive belt, which they recommend to change every 60000 miles, which is pretty much where i am at. They quoted me around $200 all together, and obvious there's nothing final until they actually inspect it which alone cost $135. Plus they said that this wasn't under warranty because it's wear and tear.
What should i do?

A drive belt is $27

If that's the actual problem then just order one and put it on yourself, it's pretty easy and a lot better than paying over 6 times that at the stealership (and yeah, the drive belt itself wouldn't be under powertrain warranty)

Have you ever turned the car on, took a look/listen under the hood, and didn't drive it. Does the sound still exist until the motor warms up?

could also be coming from the emission control air pump and/or hoses as those are only active when engine is started cold or during cold outside temperature.

I would have also thought it was the belt. I would order the part from Sewell and take it to the stealership to lower the cost.
