I let my AC run while yesterday then after a couple of minutes a weird smell started to come out.
I know my AC needs refill and probably I need new cabin filter. I am crazy about bad smell from AC and I think about Carbon cabin filter which is $42 on Sewell - is it worth to put extra $$ to have carbon filter? What is the best spray to treat mold in vents?

There is an air fresher that Sewell sells, but I would just go with what ever new parts you need from Sewell.

Try the fram fresh breeze cabin air filter. It has arm and hammer baking soda in it. You can search on Amazon for it for about 17-18 bucks.

You can get the A/C refresher kit but no one seems to have directions on how to use it. You can also find carbon filters on Amazon either generic brands or from Wix for under $15. I noticed the carbon filter really makes no difference. I also used the A/C refresher kit but put it through the wrong hole lol so bottle wasted.

I have same problem, when i turn on heat it gets worst can breath inside the car, i have new cabin filter, can't figure out the problem

I just use Lysol fresh breeze in the outside air vent by windshield with the A/C on fresh air on high and spray then turn heat on and that nasty smell went bye bye. You could also use febreeze but Lysol kills 99.9% bacteria

thank you all for the info. One thing i know for sure. No matter how often you change your cabin filter there is a AC mold build up inside the air vents. The older car - the worst smell will be. My IS is 2006 so the car is 6 years old already, and I quess nobody cleaned up the vents before me.
So I thought you guys figured what spray is the best for vent's mold..?

Anybody ever used Carbon cabin filter from Sewell and felt the difference?

I thought I was the only one with this issue. That musty smell is. It working for me either. Imagine that ackward moment where your first date gets quiet in the car and it starts smelling. Epic fail!

try spryaing lysol in the outside vents. It's a temproray fix but it worked fro me.

Yeah the Lysol trick does work!

The main reason for the smell is moisture stuck in the system. To help prevent it, don't run the A/C and then turn the car off.
If you're using the A/C, turn it off and turn on the fans a couple minutes before you get to your destination. This will help clear out the moisture that results from using the A/C.
If you simply turn your car off after having the A/C on, that moisture gets locked in.

ahh! I got the same smell -- I think. It started recently; not sure if it's because the summer heat or the car getting older. If many cars are affected, Lexus should offer a TSB ... never have this happen on any car that I know of.

The car is fine when first started in the morning, but if I drive it for a while, then stop for about an hour or so and start the car again, the weird smell comes from the AC vent. The smell goes away after driving about 15 minutes until I start and stop the car again. (sometimes it continues randomly)

I'll try turning the AC off see if it helps.

I get the same smell in my lexus 2006 IS250. I'll try the lysol trick and thanks in advance. I'll also try to throw in a few air fresheners.

I am with you. Moisture causes mold, the mold stinks that's it.
Also that freakin mold causes the weird feeling in my nose too, it has to be some kind of allergy I guess...?
Anyway inhale the mold is not the healthiest thing you can do

Can you tell where I can buy The Lysol you were used? Also can you copy and paste some link here please?
