Default DIY: Wheel Center Caps

For those who've had a tough time finding center wheel caps. I recently purchased some Hyundai Genesis wheels and dear sweet baby jesus, trying to find some Lexus center caps that'd work was a pain.

I read here that people bough wheel centers on ebay, and modified them to work, I went through two sets with no luck. I modified the clips and they'd just keep breaking when I tried to insert them, as well as the paint started to flake as it was getting pressure. I looked into the blank center caps, and couldnt find anything. Then it hit me, why not just modify the hyundai caps. So I go to work

I found a way to separate the center caps by using a butterknife

Youll have to remove the sticky puddy that holds together the plastic part to the aluminum overlay

once done, they should look like this

You'll have to dremel the raised H part down and make them smooth

I had to trim my laser emblem stickers to fit. I ordered a 2' but should've did a 1.75'

here's a test fit after cutting

I bought some gloss paint from the automotive store that was for outdoor use for 8 bucks and got to work, here's my homemade paint bench

after a few coats, I let sit and dry

what they looked like once dry

and finally I put the sticker emblems on

I ended up sanding them down once more (but forgot to snap a picture of them)

and final result

I hope this helps someone out there

Well done and very clever. Do you mind me asking where you found a set of the genesis wheels? I've been looking for sometime now..

I'm picking up a set of these wheels tomorrow and was wondering what I was going to do for center caps. Thanks very much for the write up + pics! Much useful.

Looks perfect but i remember reading on here not too long ago that someone did the same exact thing to the caps and if i can find the thread it would have saved you time and money.

i removed the hyundai layer with a screwdriver...(you can use a knife instead)
take care don't brake it with high pressure of your hand...
you can warm it to remove the tape easier
now use your fingers to remove the tape...
after removing the Hyundai layer you must use rubber to remove H shape from the center cap...
don't let the rubber go to basic layer....
after that use a sand paper to get it smooth
now use a softer sand paper to get it more and more smooth...
(take care of edge)
now use a spray color to paint it if you want a decals on it
after paint let color to dry... now use your decals on it...
if you want to use your L logo you can buy it from a shop and use tape to take on it....
Enjoy it...
