Hear the tire and road while driving
Hi Guys,
I'm a new owner of a used 2006, IS 250, and quote excited about it. I also have a GS 400 but I'm just amazed at the stark differences between the cars in term of road noise. The GS is obliviously smooth and quite but the IS 250, seems to roar on the road, since the car is not new , i really have no idea as to how the car was to feel and drive , so any comments would be appreciated.
I think it might be bcos the IS is a small sports sedan but could be wrong

It depends what your budget is.
Yes, it could be bad wheel bearings, but I highly doubt it. A simple way to check is to jack up the car and shake the wheels. If they clunk, the wheel bearings are bad. But, I highly doubt this is the case. Almost every time I hear about road noise complaints on a toyota or lexus, it's the tires.
go to tires-easy.com and discount tire will match their price.

Kuhmo Ecsta ASX, but when I bought them, they were less than $100/tire. It's wayyyyyyy more expensive now. Next tires I would buy would be Nexen CP672's, just to try them out. They're a great price, and are supposed to last a long time.

I have a GS 430 (2004) and it's quieter than my 2011 IS. I think that the GS is just a smoother car, from the suspension, to the overall weight. I don't think comparing the two is fair.
Tires may be your problem, but in my opinion, make sure the car isn't just different from what you're used to.

Though - riding in my buddies GS400, it is pretty quiet for its age still!

i am amazing on the first few response here on how to proceed on handling this situation buy new tires.. that would be mainly the last thing you would do as it is the most costly ,
lets all start out with the simple things and being cost effective here
1. yes check air pressure on tires , some tires make more road noise on less or more air pressure.
2. Besides visually checking yourself, go to a reputable mechanic or, ask someone that is mechanically incline about your tires, tire pressure, the wear, if they are directional and so on.
3, If a mechanic is suggesting for you to replace a damage part on your car, and if it is relating to anyhting you are there for for example road noise.. .. then you can conclude if you should do it or not, and
4 if everything is mechanically sound as of, all the above has been checked.. most of the time getting these simple things are pretty much free , then go ahead and start looking for replacement of tires
