Talking Newbie Intro - Just picked up a 2012 IS350 F-Sport

Hey all -

I just picked up a new IS350 F-Sport for the wife, and I am starting the modding process. That being said, since it is the wife's car, things need to be a bit more "mild" than what my taste is. I have done a bit of research, and I have come to a few conclusions for a few mods, but I need help with others.

Springs - Eibach Pro Kit
I decided to go this route because she is not used to driving a lowered car, so I wanted to go with something that had about a 1" drop all around.

Intake - AEM Cold-Air
I chose AEM because of the trusted name. I have been out of the JDM modding scene for a while, (coming from the Euro modding scene with BMW/Benz), but I figure most intakes are close, so really cant go wrong.

Exhaust - Tanabe (maybe matched with a midpipe?)
I decided the Tanabe would be a good choice because it is rather mild, but from what I have heard online, it is not loud at all, which is what I want for her, but I think it might be too conservative. Because of this I am thinking maybe to remove the resonator or add a midpipe? I just want a good sound without drone. What do you guys think?

BTW - if anyone is looking to sale their Tanabe in SoCal, please shoot me a PM. I can't post in the FS section until I get 30 posts.

Wheels -
This is where I need the most help. Do people go with 19" or 20'"? Considering that I am going to lower the car, what would look best? Because the car is pearl white, I am going to go with a matte black concave wheel, or some variation of a black wheel. How wide of a tire can I go without rubbing or having any issues?

What other mods can I do?

Thanks all for your help!

Congrats on purchase, welcome to CL. Since it's the wife and you need to go "Mild" go with 19"... You can also get her a body kit, so many to choose from, I like the WALD Kit...

I would suggest 19 for a slightly more comfortable ride

No pictures, no opinion! Lol jk. Go with the 19's. As for intake check out the fsport intake on sewell. Not much more than aem I believe. Plus it comes with a 1 yr warranty. The tanabe exhause it not noticebly loud but good enough for the wifeys ear.

I'd suggest the Joe Z for intake- it's $125 compared to $250-350 for most others, and gives you the as much or more gain. If you want it for noise then just cut the stock lower airbox and it'll sound just like the F-sport for $200 less.

Wow Guys, thanks for the info.

As for the wheels, what tires sizes for 19? Could I put 19 x 10 R and 19 x 9.5 F? or is that too aggressive.

Welcome to CL. Congrats on the new and sweet ride! Call up Carson Toyota in So Cal. They sell the Joe Z intake tube. Joe Z is a fellow CL member and trusted person on this site. You'll need a different filter element like the HKS filter. Check out Carson Toyota's site www.l-tuned.com

I'd say get the Tanabe and that should be enough. Your wife won't want it loud.

May want to consider Tein H Tech Spring over a the Eibach Pro Kit. Few people have mention the Eibach's is a bit harsh. The Tein's drop is more conservative, but appears just right for some; I'm personally considering this for my 250 F-Sport (0.9" front, 0.3" rear). For the 350, it would be 1" front and 0.6" rear.
