I just noticed the other day that my Lexus visa gift card expires this month...I thought it was illegal for gift cards to expire in the state of California. Anyone else have any idea if this true or not?

expiration date is legal in CA on the lexus card because you didn't pay for it

Also, store bought gift cards with VISA, MASTERCARD, AMEX... will get hit with maintenance fees until it gets to zero balance. So it's like expiring.

If it's specific store gift card such as Bestbuy, Fry's, Guess, etc... those cannot be expired or charged a maintenance fee. I still have a Barns & Noble gift card with 75 cents leftover from almost 10 years ago. And it's still good...

I learned this the hard way... some gave me a 50 bucks American Express gift card, and it had like 30 bucks left over when I began to use it after few months later. I complained to them with the law... but it didn't apply to them.

I also wasted over 500 dollars worth of gift cards that I got from test drive incentives because they expired.. All those free mod money went down the drain.

Bottom line, don't save up free gift cards... use it !!!

Like Kurtz said, there's an exception if you have a gift card that wasn't paid for by a consumer.

I paid for my extended warranty..looks like ill be hanging out at a local dealer soliciting customers

Then keep em or resell them for the cash !
