Exclamation Non Flyaudio Navigation system - center vents fitment.

Hi All.

I have a non flyaudio Navigation system which a friend brought for both of us to test.
its really a great system - comparable to FA system.
Some pics http://img826.imageshack.us/slidesho...lexusis250.jpg
My issue is that the system is designed for the later model is250 or maybe a different trim level.
There are two different center vent types. Those with flap control on the side and those that have them in the middle.
I can go into details about the system itself if you want but for now I need to address the fitment issue.

With what you can see below
I know this type of center vent doesnt work

Question is should I get this center vent from the newer model and would it fit into my 07 dash.

Appreciate the help.

That sucks about the fitment issue. I'm not sure if you're able to switch your vents. Can you post up the link where you bought it?

Dont really have a link. My friend got them through one of his HID bulb suppliers.
I will ask him.

The 2nd pic looks to be an 09'+. Your unit looks to be more that shape. I'm not sure the vents will fit your car but I would try it cause that gap doesn't look too good.

hmmm thats pretty damn close to OEM 2009+ navi, how much?

My advice would be to try and fit the newer vents.

Please post a review so we can compare it to FlyAudio. Who's the manufacturer?

Thanks all. I will contact sewell to get the vents and try it out.

Cost is about 1k+ - Made in China. no link - my friend got it through one of his suppliers.
Install (except for vents obviously ) was a breeze just like the FA.
with my 07 the wiring I believe is simpler. it comes with one harness for video input and one that connects to OEM harness. please see the link in first post for rear pics of the device and wiring.
No radio reception issues for AM/FM. No wiring issues (as I noticed on the latest pages of the FA thread) due to simple wiring.
Has Iphone/ipod cable.
Has usb drive cable (black one coming out of the back) which works great.
DVD drive works great and reads all the ripped movies I tried with different codecs.
Screen has a crisp image.
Came with a sony 4gb micro SD which works well.
Doesnt come with navigation software but I put IGO8 on it and its super fast.
Bluetooth - connected to my blackberry torch 9810 easily. A2DP work great. Contact list update is a tad slow but not bad. I still need to get used to working with the bluetooth/phone on this device and then its all good.
Ipod control - will try it out soon and review although I know it works.
Temperature - shows Celsius which is what we use over here but will see if that can be changed to Fahrenheit .
No Clock just like FA probably due to DVD slot but clock is visible on most screens.
My friend got the DVBT module so he can get TV channels and seems to be fine.
No option for a rear view camera so you need to source one your self which I did. My friend installed his already and it works fine.

AC control - Works fine. no Issues.
Steering wheel controls work too.

Let me know if you want me to check something specific and I will.

FA = Fly Audio?

You are saying that this is not made by Fly Audio?

I thought Fly Audio is the only company who makes aftermarket DVD screen for Lexus IS.

This is not branded FA (flyaudio) and looks different to any FA system I have seen. It may ultimately be made at the same place but I wouldn't know that - doesn't really matter to me :-)

If all else fails then just run a silver or chrome trim across to cover the gap that should look fine. =]

Quick update.

I have the 09+ vents on order and that should sort it out.

As far as a review:
Installation - Good
very simple.
Radio - Good
Perfect AM/FM reception.
Radio - Bad
Intermittently the channels will switch their assigned slots after car if started maybe once every 2 - 3 days. manageable? yes annoying? yes
Ipod - Good.
Control is builtin including playlists etc.
Ipod - Bad
Sometimes I will only get sound in the front right speaker.
DVD - Good
All OK
navigation - good
ALL good
CD playback - good
All works fine
CD playback - Bad
Sometimes when selecting CD playback it will default to aux. This also means if your listening to a CD with the navigation on , after navigation gives directions it will revert back to AUX instead of CD.
USB playback - Good
ALL OK.
Climate Control - Good
All works.

Is this system perfect? nope.
Is it better than FA, I will leave that up to you to judge.
My friend is contacting the supplier to inquire about support for this product. If its non existent then I will live with it for now.
I will try to get to the inner workings of the system later this month to see if there are hidden settings I can play with.

@johnchi

I have located a seller in china that sells the name brand roadrover which looks exactly like the flyaudio brand. I have not purchased this yet, but the price is no where near the 1500+ for flyaudio brand. Any idea if this one you have is made by rangerover?

The vents are 09+, fitment is a bit different, I'm actually working on this unit for 06-08s for American distribution with warranty with a different manufacturer.

Hi,

So talked to my friend.
He says this is from roadrover.
The prices vary a lot according to him.
I just had a look myself and the price differences between lowest and highest are big between chineese sellers.
Difference between them? Have no idea. They all look the same and advertised as being the same from what I saw.
