Hey guys, I am a newer IS 250 owner - just over 3 weeks now and I love it! Last weekend I painted the emblems and the trim around the windows with the plastic dip stuff.

Unfortunately, I just noticed this tonight......I honestly do not know if it was there before or not, but obviously I want to fix this. I mean I peeled the plastic dip stuff off, but I didn't do it with a crowbar!





I almost thought about getting some rubber cement or something and putting some on the end of a toothpick to get it under the spots, and then pressing it back down? Would that work? Surely someone on here knows something about this?

I'll take some better pictures tomorrow but this is driving me nuts! It is not on all of my windows, mainly the two front ones...I've tried to find out what this is exactly called but I have not been able to find the name yet? ANY and all advice or pointers would be really appreciated!

doesn't look like the molding is eaten up but maybe the solvents in the plastidip (pretty nasty stuff) got under the molding and ate away at the adhesive in that spot.

Looks easy enough to fix with some contact cement or whatever a body shop would use.

Your paint on the other hand, looks to be in rough shape. You need to visit the detailing section stat man...

My '06 is doing that now; just noticed it over the winter. It was fine last year. I'll probably just let it do it's thing until it gets noticeably ugly. Right now you cannot tell unless you are right there on top of the door.

I'm right there with you guys. it's only noticeable on the driver's side door - but that's what I see the most!!!!

this happen to my is350 when it was like two years old.......i was trippin when it was peeling.....it looks like black tape, like electric tape lol...

About the paint - Yeah I know....I'm detailing it this weekend if the weather holds up. Hopefully I can find some tips on removing those kind of "scratches" or whatever?

I agree with you about the solvents in that - I read and read about doing this all over the forum and didn't see where this had happened to anyone else....pisses me off but oh well. I love the way it looks with all the chrome blacked out....so stealthy!

To everyone else: Mines a 2008. I think it came from FL, but it is in really good shape minus this crap on the trim and some of those rough looking spots on the paint.
Anyway, I played around with a way to fix it today. I taped off everything and them I got a little bit of epoxy that sets in 5 mins and used a toothpick and a dental tool to place the epoxy under the rubber. Why epoxy? I didn't want to use super glue because I wanted a little time window to do the next step. From there I pressed firmly and squeezed most of it out leaving it looking damn near new! I was actually really surprised, I got some really 't good results! I didn't take a picture of it today, but I'll post some tomorrow. Maybe I'll make a write up if that would help anyone....

I have the same issue on all my lower window moldings. I was wondering if there is a DIY on how to remove them so I can remove the rubber completely off and plastic-dip them.

You should put. 3M carbon Fiber vinyl over the chrome trim. That's what I'm doing to get rid of the chrome maybe it might help with the molding

I purchased an IS350 recently that has the black on the bottom of the windows peeling somewhat badly. Has anyone scraped it off and redone it with some type of material? It literally looks like electrical tape that has dried out.

Any reason you can't remove what you can, remove the glue with something, and then find some type of vinyl to redo it with? Anything would look better. Hopefully someone has experience with this.

Mine is completely loose only attached to the tip close to the window even when in the highway it opens up with the air...one of the reasons that pushes me to get into a Newer car=to a high monthly payment that i don't want lol
