Thumbs down My MPG is very low!

So after asking what people get on their IS250's i'm embarrassed to say that i only get about 21MPG in 70/30 City/Highway driving?

This is the tread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...-tank-mpg.html

I don't drive that crazy and do not WOT my car that often? I have about 59K on the car too. My tires are checked every month. and i only put Premium 93 Octane gas in my car too.

Anything i can do to improve?

adjust your driving... try to anticipate stops so you use throttle and brakes as little as possible. IE slower braking so you will need to accelerate less to get up to speed again.

Also 70% city is a lot of city :-).

Haha, but I already do all of that. People say i'm a good driver, and i personalty think i drive economically (most of the time). I'm thinking it's not my driving, because other people drive my car too, and they get about the same MPG as me. (Don't know why i didn't mention that before?)

And yes it is, but I only get out of the city on the weekends, besides that everything i need to do is nearby in the city.

Anything else..?

At 59k miles you're just about due to change your spark plugs... and also your air filter for a second time... both of which could impact mileage.

Follow this advice. City driving kills your mileage. Watch the instant MPG meter. When you accelerate from a stop it will show 0-10 mpg. Then if you hold it at a steady 45 mph cruise it will be around 40 mpg. You will get better mileage if you keep it at this speed by anticipating traffic and stops. When you do need to stop, just release the accelerator and coast and it will show 90 mpg, so keep it in this state as long as possible by not using the brakes, because once you stop, you will be sitting at 0 mpg.

yeah that's about the worst possible conditions not only for mileage (as the car probably never gets to closed loop mode) it's pretty terrible on your oil/engine too as the motor never gets to run at operating temp and burn off all the water/other crap.

Ya, the temp gauge never reaches the norm. On days that are 40 or below I'll start it up and let it run for 10/15 mins before I leave for work just so that it does get up to at least somewhat normal temps.

It might improve some after you do the spark plugs and filter at 60k mIles. Mine did by about 1.5. Lifetime average over 25k miles is 24.6

For that much city driving, that sounds about right.

When I had my is250 I would get around 22 mpg driving into DC. The driving style of the taxi cabs is the killer. I just got a 350 so I am wondering what the difference is going to be. I did notice that when I first got the 250 that mpg was about 15 but after driving it for a while it all of a sudden went up to 22.

Man, I guess I drive like gramps, then. I get 28.4 city and 33 Hwy. I do watch the traffic condition, anticipate lights and road surface (uphill / downhill), and keep an eye on the MPG meter all the time.

Not much you can do with mostly city driving. Buy a hybrid
