Default Valve cover gaskets

My engine is leaking oil from the top so I have to change my valve cover gaskets. I want to do it myself. Is this a good idea or should I just take it to someone who has done it before. Is it an easy or difficult job?

Cake, if you have a few tools and general mechanical knowledge. Its just a rubber seal after all...nothing special.

how are you so certain its the valve gaskets?

Mine was leaking oil from an oil return line after the spring replacements, which is also at the top of the heads......

When i was doing my oil change my mechanic said that's probably what it is. I will check my oil return lines and see if they are leaking.

yeah, the Lexus tech had over torqued that return bolt and cracked the head and the replaced the entire side cover. If you've had any type of head work done either at the factory or elsewhere its entirely possible.

Cracked the head...or just the valve cover? Guessing/hoping you meant the VC.
