Default DIY 2009 Side Mirrors on 06-08

So I took the leap and purchased the 09 side mirrors from sewell. While this is not a complete in depth DIY it will get you there for the most part so I figured I would post what I had.

The hardest parts are running the wires from the doors into and out of the fenders to get into the car and then to solve the one issue with the wiring on the RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR.

As you can see in this attachment I show the tools needed ( I also recommend a pulse toner) and a preview look of the new vs old mirrors. As well as both connectors. As you can see they are the same meaning they will fit in the old harness. However if you take a closer look you will find one extra wire per side which is the tire you need to tap for the blinker.

First start off by tapping that extra wire on each side with a simple wire tap and run a good amount of wire to it so you have enough to work with remember the passenger side will have to travel to the driver side.

In these attachements you can see the steps to take off a door (thanks to Mister T for pioneering this with the LED covers).

As you can see only 3 10mm bolts hold the mirror onto the car, remove the plastic on the door to access this and remember have both your windows down during this entire process. Once the bolts are off you can disconnect the old mirror plug from the car and pull off the old mirror. The new one pops into place.

Plug the new plug into the existing harness and run the cable you tapped into the car via the rubber tube from the door to the fender. On the other side of the fender right at the carpet line there is a hole that goes out...this is the most time consuming part. Be patient it took me an hour to snake this with a wire hanger.

Once the wire is in the car run the wire hanger (without your wire) from the driver side to the passenger side after removing the kick pannel on the passanger side. There is access to run the hanger right by the gas pedal. One you have done that tape your wire to it and pull it to the driver side.

At this point I decided to find my blinker wires. Now you can do this trail and error with a volt meter but I went to home depot and bought a pulse toner it basically will amplify the signal in the speaker without it being exposed. So when i go over the right wire i head "click click click" this is how i found my cables in the driver side door sill. Its a green and red cable.

Remember one of these per side. One will make the clicking noise when the signal is turned to left and the other to right.

Copy what you did on the passenger door with the driver door. Now the only problem with this is one of the wires in the plug on the 2009s is not in the same place as on our 06-08 David at Tampa Automotive Center was able to find out which and correct this for me.

When I drop off my SC430 to do springs this week I will verify which with him and update this.

Let me know if anyone has any questions. This really isnt very bad...seems like alot but its fairly easy stuff!

Nice writeup. How much did the mirrors cost you?

Are these any different than the covers off Nigel or Ebay? Besides the obvious OEM vs aftermarket.

Thanks for the write-up! Any issues or things you were surprised by after the install?

ramainli - these are not covers these are the actual mirrors that come on the 09-12 2IS. Nigel and Ebay offer covers the retro fit onto the existing 06-08 mirror housing.

brociouz- only surprise was the right/passanger door wiring issue...other than that you wouldnt tell that they were added they look and function as if they belong from factory.

well this 09+ mirrors has the same connect harness as the 06-08 one? is it because this mirrors are the non luxury one? what about the one with heated mirrors and auto dim or title? I've heard they are smaller wire harness?

Yeah i have the luxury pack, which has reverse tilt, auto dim, and heat. I think the 09+ for our cars are $900+. Sad face...
