Default Oil Change -- How many quarts needed?

Just got a few coupons for oil changes at Lexus.

On the coupon it says $20 oil change (up to 6 qts). Is that enough? For $20, its hard to pass up. Not sure if this includes the filter change as well...

Thanks!

From owners manual of a 2007, should be the same till 2008 at least, might still be the same though.

IS250 - 6.6
IS250 AWD - 6.8

^ Yeah its a little under 7. I doubt they will charge you for that last part of a quart you need, and i'm sure the filter is included....never heard of a dealership saying oil change and not including the filter....that would probably just anger anyone that came in with a coupon lol

Just under 7 quarts, I usually put in 6.5 and adjust from there.

What that coupon does not say is the extra charges like shop and disposal fees.

I personaly think it's better to do it your self. I do my own oil changed with Mobil 1 synthetic and oem filter and i spend less then $40.00 and a run down to autozone to dispose the old oil for free.

How is that a deal? Cheaper to 1) do it yourself 2) dealership (here at least) charges $60 with a loaner car, and I'd rather a dealer touch my car than PepBoys...

$60 with tax here at the lexus dealer, and if you wanna wait you can enjoy a free light lunch in the waiting area (usually pastries, cookies, snack bars, etc plus drinks)... plus you get the service in the lexus computer system so when future buyers look it up it doesn't look like it went 50k miles without an oil change

(though I agree doing it yourself is the ideal for both cost and insuring it's done properly)

Not to mention that you can use synthetic instead of the regular oil the dealer will use with those 60 bucks.

Thanks for the replies.

One other question.. Is it necessary to change the gasket at each oil change? I've been browsing through the service options on the dealers website and they can do either Oil/Filter change or Oil/filter/gasket change.

Just wondering!

If you're talking about the filter house gasket gasket then I recommend changing it as the whole unit gets pressurized

My body works at Toyota dealer. He told me the story they fired the guy from service a couple months ago who has been responible for oil changes lets say '' oil changes''
He just clean out the oil plug and filters and he was never changed an oil and filters on any car. They found a bunch of new oils and filters at his locker and heck knows how long he has been doing this crap...?

Trusted Toyota Dealer huh? Piece of ****...

Anywways Toyota dealer does not mean they do better job than ex Pepboys. You have same people here and there...

You can always find exceptions but the overall odds are Dealership techs will be more skilled than Pep Boys. Besides where do think this ex-Toyota mechanic is going to apply at now?
