Default gas pump keeps shutting off

I've been trying to filling up gas, but when I begin it clicks off almost instantly. Tried filling it up at three different stations and the same result...

I'm almost certain it has something to do with the vapor recovery system we have in California. In Colorado I never had this problem (no vapor recovery system)

Any suggestions or anyone in California?

I'm in So Cal but have yet to experience this problem. Which part of California are you in? Did you check with the dealer to see what's the deal?

I also have had this issue, try to re-position to use the auto function the handle but still does it. Lately just have to push the pump handle way in and hold.

Just make sure the gas pump gasket seal cover your gas tank hole good.

This will most likely be covered by the emissions warranty. My guess is one of the many components of the Evaporative Emissions System. It's possible that this is an issue covered by TSB L-SB-0024-11.

My guess is that something is keeping the air pressure that should be going through the canister from making the trip:

Here is the list of parts that may be in the mix.
  • Emission Control Systems Components
  • Canister Purge Control Valve
  • Evaporative Canister Filter
  • Evaporative Emission Control Canister
  • Evaporative Emissions System
  • Leak Detection Pump

Also a few fuses you might want to check...

Engine compartment (type A fuse box)
  • 15 P/I-B 60 A INJ, F/PMP, EFI

Engine compartment (type B fuse box)
  • 15 EFI NO.2 10 A Fuel system, exhaust system
  • 19 EFI 25 A Multiport fuel injection system/sequential multiport fuel injection system, EFI NO. 2

I've been having that problem the past couple fill ups. I thought it was the gas station (Costco Gas) I was going to. I'll have to talk with the dealer when I go to the dealer to fix the start up rattle.

I'll try setting the pump in different positions (that's what she said), but man I hope I can figure this problem out. It's getting real annoying sitting there for 5 minutes playing with the nozzle just to get half tank

happens to me on nearly every fill up. Just tilt it upwards as far as you can and the gass will pump fine, although its a pain to hold it up waiting for 14-15gallons to pump =/

I've noticed that if you only have it flowing at about half the rate it fill flow just fine. But then you have to wait longer...

Happens to be occasionally, my best educated guess is it has to do with the shape of the piping going to our gas tank and the gas pump. A faster nozzle gas pump along with the shape of our gas tank piping doesnt allow for incredibly fast flow... so some gas stations (better ones ) have fast pumps, and cause back-pressure on the pump, making it stop as to not over-fill or spill out of your tank. A PITA for sure

It's happened to me quite a bit over the years but not every time. Seems to be gas station/pump specific.

For me, I don't have problems filling up at full rate all the time. For me personally, for the first 1/2 of the fill up, I go full rate, then for the rest, I go to 2/3; but sometimes to full and then 1/3 or 2/3 then 1/3.

I have a feeling sometimes that filling at a slower rate, you may get a bit more gas before it cuts off as compared to filling it at a higher rate and getting cut off.
