Default Windshield vandalized

So over the weekend, I was in Pomona, Tequila Hoppers to be exact. I went to visit some friends and ended up staying till last call. From the jumpoff I knew this place was a little questionable but whatever, i had good company i was meeting. I noticed getting into my car that there are circular cracks on the windshield and then in the morning it was massive cracks going from the drivers to the passenger roofish area.

Anyways long story short i was pissed but what could I do. It was 230 and the place was closing, they didn't have cameras or witnesses and I wasn't in my area (LA). To top it off friends were saying to call the police but we had been drinking.

Anyways...I talked to my insurance and they said they would take care of it. I'm with Mercury and they have their own window specialist they work with. It's called American glass or something like that...has anyone gone with them before or do I have the option to find my own mechanic / spot to install?

It will be fine, just make sure you ask for factory glass. I have to ask for it but it doesn't cost me any additional money.

Insurance will recommend you to a certified shop of theirs but it's not necessary for you to get work done there.
Whichever shop you choose, make it clear you want Lexus OEM parts and not after market.

Damn that sucks! But as far as getting a replacement goes, make sure you use a reputable installer and ask for OEM glass. Check with your adjuster about coverage for OEM glass. Since your in LA, id recommend taking your car to the Longo Toyota/Lexus Collision center. I had my windshield replaced there recently (with another OEM) and I was pretty satisfied with the repair overall, they did a great job. There was just some minor issues i had with them (i.e. they lost the registration attached to my window during the repair )

Btw...you said you didn't call the cops because you all had been drinking? I hope you didn't proceed to drive home after that! lol

There was another thread about aftermarket windshield with mixed reviews about OEM or aftermarket. So, should I ONLY get the OEM lexus stamped windshield or can risk it with aftermarket.

Is it verified that OEM Lexus has better sound / acoustic properties? Having a hard time fighting the insurance company about OEM. They keep say aftermarket is just as good and if I want OEM, I'll have to pay difference.

How big is the difference in price? Either way, it is wrong of them to do that but I am just curious. My wife and I have Mercury as well in Florida and when she had to get her windshield replaced on her Scion tC, they had an installer come out to the house and take care of it. I never asked if it was OEM or not though...

Well I mean I had two drinks and it was an hour after. The place was a bar and it's after hours....it already looks like a bad situation.

As far as the windshield, I'm having it replaced. They just ordered an OEM windshield from the local Lexus dealership. Again I'm with mercury and i'm working with their authorized glass dealer, so they have local shops they send their cars to. Of course I'll be researching the shop before I go and at this point I just want my windshield fixed. Sucks too because I was already in line to buy a front lip & hit upgrade kit. Now it's a new windshield =T

Did Mercury OK the bill for the OEM lexus windshield? I need to switch my insurance. I'm with 21st century, they use to be the best in terms of getting OEM parts and making the customer happy. Now that Farmers took over, it's crap. Farmers nickle and dime on everything.

Mercury do not always quote with OEM parts. Make sure that the shop states in writing that it is a Lexus OEM part.

Probably isn't oem.
Check drivers side glass area at dash for brand.

Not sure about a Scion tC, but for the Lexus IS windshield, there's a big difference between OEM and aftermarket glass. OEM glass was around $1,400 installed according to the repair invoice I got. Thank god for insurance

I have yet to still ask for a quote, but presuming that I'm just paying deductible? But I just spoke with the rep from the authorized glass dealer which happens to be All Star Glass. From the reviews and likewise a search on these forums, they're pretty reputable. I spoke with the service rep and she said she just ordered the non rain sensor glass yesterday and it should be coming in any moment. i asked her where and she said it's from Lexus that's why it's taking a bit longer for delivery. So I'm Presuming it's going to be either Thursday or Friday i'll be getting it fixed and i'll check to see on the receipt or service order it's LEXUS.

Yeah you will pay whatever your deductible is for comprehensive losses usually.

Make sure the glass has the little stamp in the lower corner that says "LEXUS" on it.
