Default Low Profile Floor Jacks?

Hey there all. I got your average 2 1/4 ton floor jack as a belated Christmas present the other day. However, before I chose to keep it out I tried it out to see how it would work. Unfortunately I'm afraid it won't. The jack doesn't allow me to go under the front bumper far enough to hit the safe jack placement point. I'm unafraid it will work even when placed behind the front tires. I know I could use a block to give me a bit more height on the jack rail. I did all this on my wife's IS250 AWD which sits even higher than my 350 which I plan to lower soon anyway.

I remember when I had my 350Z with a bodykit that sat lower than my IS I had it at a shop who had a floor jack that was able to fit underneath to the proper jack points. Does anyone have any suggestions on affordable floor jack units that will be able to be used on my wife and I's IS's?

i know i'm gonna get flamed for this but if you have any local harbor freights, they have a racing low profile floor jack for around $150. i believe you can get it on sale for around $100-120. it'll do the job, especially since you're suppose to put it on jack stands anyway

just put 2 short pieces of 2x4 infront your wheels, roll up on that then slide the jack under the car... OR get bags

I second this. For the amount of work we would do on our cars this is a great option.

I've seen the Harbor Freight jacks and they seem to be okay. I mean, will the name brand jack lift your car any differently?

For anyone who lifts their car with a floor jack from the sides (on the scissor jack, jacking points) is there a proper way to do this? I'm worried that if I do this I might end up bending the lip that's under there, as the jack I'm using has a "cup" on the end of it.

I wouldnt directly raise the car with that cup at the end. Ive learned to place a 2x4 at the end of the jack as to be able to raise the car with a flat surface. Also driving on 2 2x4's also help lift the car if your jack doesnt fit. My friend has a low profile jack and still doesnt fit underneath our cars.

I agree with llama. I have a low profile jack but it's like a few mm off my skirt. I just use 2x4s haha.

i have ings+1 rep side skirts, so even when rolling up on 2x4's, I still don't have enough clearance.

If you have a Costco near you, you should pick up the Arcan Low Profile Jack, I picked mine up for $100 ! One of the best investments I made in awhile lol
