I recently bought a 2008 IS-250. Previously I owned a 2002 Maxima for 10 years. The Lexus seems to take a long time to get up to operating temperature. I timed it today from dead cold to full operating temp took a little over 14 minutes.

That's a lot more time than my Maxima took, but maybe it's normal for the Lexus?

As for conditions, I was on a 4-lane road going about 50 mph with the occasional stop for red lights. Temps outside were in the upper 40's.

I'm just trying to see if this is a "normal" amount of time for this car to get up to temp.

14 minutes with the temps in the upper 40's seems a quite a bit of time for it to warm up. It took my car 10 minutes to warm up yesterday driving in snow with temps in the low 20's.

It's going to depend on the temperature the car started at as well. If it's 30C outside it's going to warm up faster than 0C or -25C, etc. It's also going to depend how you're driving it as well. There are a lot of variables, so simply comparing to others might not be entirely accurate.

Still, my IS250 definitely takes longer to warm up than some of my other cars, but it's usually warm within about 8-10 minutes in the winter (from the -10C range, I'm guessing). I've never actually timed it.

My IS 250 takes longer to warm up than any car I've ever owned. My previous vehicles warmed up in 3-4 minutes (that's what the thermostat is for). MY IS250 takes about 15 min (as others have posted). I asked the dealer service department and they said "that's normal". Well, it's not normal but it may be typical for the specified thermostat in the IS250 (maybe even an engineering error that they never fixed). The original point of the thermostat was to quicken the warm up time of the engine so it would drive better. In later years (1970 on) it was more directed at reducing emissions (by speeding up warmup). I don't understand why Lexus would want to reduce the emissions during warmup of the IS25 to as low as possible.

Mine takes about 10 minutes to temperature from about 40 degrees on idle.

Is it bad to drive the car, when the car isn't fully heated up..?

10 seems like about right for mine too. Longer than my Honda.

There's a massive amount of oil the needs to be heated in the IS250. The more fluid, the longer it takes to get it up to temperature.

I park my car in the garage every night, the next morning I get in and drive away in less than 2min. Freeway is 2 blocks away. I don't see anything wrong for the last 9 months since I owned. I do the same for my 09 Tacoma.

there are way too many variables that come into play to call it "normal". I'd be more concerned if it never got up to temp or went over, otherwise, it doesn't seem like something to worry about. Airflow into your engine, starting engine block temperature, driving habits, idle time, winter blend fuel/regular season fuel, and more.

Take about 10 minutes around 60F, never really timed; I know I get heat in about 5 minutes.

Don't think so; a lot of people say you should go easy on the gas pedal until it heats up a bit though.
