I designed and built a custom bike rack, thought you might like to see it...

The "B" pieces are welded to plates that are bolted to the car (Exhaust hanger bolts). These are just higher then the bumper (not visible) and stay on the car. The rack then slides in and bolts/pins into place. It is also expandable to hold a second bike.

When not in use, the "B" tube is the only thing that stays on the car and is mounted behind the bumper (you can't see anything from outside). Then when I want to haul a bike, I just slide in each side and pin with a bolt & lock nut.
Swagman racks was somewhat interested in marketing it, but a rack like this needs to be redesigned specifically for each car, so it wasn't very economical...

beauty! can you provide more details with pictures? i.e. how it attaches to the car, dimms. ETC. I'm brainstorming how to make one. I made a custom rack for my '90 300zx back in the day. Heck, maybe I can use your design. Why re-invent the wheel?
Much obliged.
