anyone know if taking out the bulb will display any errors?

Really? Which law?

DRLs aren't even required to be equipped on new vehicles in the first place in the US.

I find no Texas law regarding them at all... nearest I find is this:
http://law.onecle.com/texas/transpor...47.302.00.html

§ 547.302. DUTY TO DISPLAY LIGHTS. (a) A vehicle shall
display each lighted lamp and illuminating device required by this
chapter to be on the vehicle:
(1) at nighttime; and
(2) when light is insufficient or atmospheric
conditions are unfavorable so that a person or vehicle on the
highway is not clearly discernible at a distance of 1,000 feet
ahead.
(b) A signaling device, including a stoplamp or a turn
signal lamp, shall be lighted as prescribed by this chapter.
(c) At least one lighted lamp shall be displayed on each
side of the front of a motor vehicle.
(d) Not more than four of the following may be lighted at one
time on the front of a motor vehicle:
(1) a headlamp required by this chapter; or
(2) a lamp, including an auxiliary lamp or spotlamp,
that projects a beam with an intensity brighter than 300
candlepower.

Notice how DRLs aren't even mentioned, let alone required.

You can click through all the subsequent chapters in 547.3xx and you'll see more info on what is ok/required for headlights, turn signals, brake lights, fog lights, etc.... and not one single mention, or requirement, of DRLs.

1) they look kinda awful

2) they waste power and shorten the overall life of the highbeam bulb

3) Some studies find they actually increase accidents

any of those are a good reason, all 3 makes it pretty easy.

Saying they won't turn off the DRLs because it's illegal is a lie. They just don't want to do it. Ask them to show you the law - BTW, it's not against the law in California unless the law changed since 2007. I had my DRLs turned off on my IS350 without any issues in Sacramento.

No, just find a dealer that doesn't lie. (good luck!)

heh, alternatively- go to the local DMV and get something from them in writing that DRLs are not legally required in Texas, then shove that back in the dealers face....

I can't find anything in a search that turning off DRLs is illegal in the US.

I'm going to ask my dealer to turn the DRLs off.

Stopped by my dealer for an unrelated reason yesterday. On my way out the door I walked past one of the service tech and quickly asked if they disabled the drl's if asked. He said he didn't know but asked if I has a couple minutes so he could make sure. Two minutes later he came out with a laptop and dongle cable and said lets go take a look. He plugged it up to my car right there in the parking lot and 5 minutes later my drl's were off.
He didn't charge me a thing.
It was Johnson Lexus of Durham(NC) by the way...

There is NO law in the US that requires DRLs.

I had them shut off on my 2008 but it took a fight.

Going in for my 2011 and will show them that it's clearly in the manual as a Customization setting.

Some people don't think they look real good. Some people want to keep their halogen high beams but don't like the yellow DRL. Some people install LED headlights into their older ISx50s and need to disabled DRLs to complete the look.
