Yes, the steam locomotive- dates back to the 40's and recently toured SoCal.

Is that the U.P Challenger class that they keep over on the eastern part of the states?
I would love to see that sweetheart fire up and fly down the rails!

Close! That's U.P. #844, a 4-8-4 Northern. The Challenger (#3985), is a 4-6-6-4. Both tour the system and I believe are kept in Wyoming when not in use. Currently, the 844 is in Vegas right now, on it's way back to WY.

Excuse me... but your car is blocking the view of that beautiful steam engine

My favorite steamer is GS4 #4449. Rode behind her this summer from portland to wishram and back!

Yeah sorry, will have to look at your shot on something other than my cell phone. Gotta love those beasts, and its a rare treat to see them run.
BTW They have a great RR museum up in Sacramento if you havent been there yet.

Yes... #4449 is currently in daylight colors

But I gotta say - best steam excursion Ive been on - Durango and Silverton. Took these pics last year on the Photographer's special. We had like 8 photo run-bys throughout the route!
