Default How long do TPMS sensors last?

Haven't seen this addressed before but I've got a few questions on the TPMS sensors. For various reasons I am still using the original tires on my 2006 IS 350 (build date 2/06) but I'll be changing them in the next six months or so. Have had no issues with the TPMS system in the time I've owned the car from new, but how long will the original sensors last before the batteries give out? Some research on the net shows ranges in the 5 to 12 year area with an average of 7 years which would mean most 2nd Gen IS sensors are still mostly good. I'd hate to mount new tires with the old sensors and then six months later they start to fail, but no sense spending good money on new sensors if they will last a while longer. So what's the dope on the sensors for the IS? Since my new tires will last another five years or so it would probably make sense to proactively change them now and then letting my Lexus dealer program them to read correctly. Opinions?

And where is the best and cheapest place to get replacement sensors? I understand even the later (current) model sensors will work on my early 2006 build date vehicle which were somehow different than the current design. Thanks for any input.
