Default Convert IS350 to AWD??

So.. an idea just popped into my head. I know of a wrecked AWD IS250 that is being parted out. Would it be hard to take the awd parts from it and convert my IS350 to AWD?? It seems that the parts that would be different woult be the Trans and front suspension / knuckles. Obviosly add the front cv shafts.. Any more that you guys know of??

You can just trade in for a 2011 IS350 AWD. I think that would be easier.

There are a number of differences.

Front subframe
Oil pan
Oil filter housing
Front differential
Front axle shafts
Front knuckles
Front wheel hubs and bearings
Front rotors
Front steering rack and tie rods
Transmission
Transfer case
Front floor pan (LH side)
Front carpet
Front drive shaft
Rear drive shaft

Along with a few other nick-knacks here and there. In short: it would be a buttload of work. More work than a manual transmission swap or even an IS250/350 engine swap.

Jeff, how much of pain would be to swap engines (250 > 350) ;-)

All these ideas are do-able with the right amount of money, but it definitely wouldn't be worth it and then you'd have to worry about reliability issues. You'd be better off just trading your car and buying a new one.

I'm pretty sure the entire car electrical system would have to be rewired also....

this has got to be the worst idea ive ever heard. why would you attempt to mix and match car parts when they are already offered from the factory with a warranty? you live in the continental united states, im pretty sure you could find a used IS AWD car. It's not like you NEED to go custom b/c the models arent offered (think the guy in the UAE with a IS-F swap).

with this swap, your car would probably be deemed less reliable than every single new car offering today, regardless of manufacturer. if youre going to take on the risk of doing any sort of swap, why not do something worthwhile that REQUIRES customization, not something that is already mass produced and readily available....idiot....

Good lord, it is amazing what people will come up with. Fuggedaboutit. It's not to say it couldn't be done, but it isn't a plug n' play situation.

It's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Especially with the IS350 AWD being a factory option, if you really wanted it.

Not to mention the overwhelming majority of folks don't need AWD in the first place... RWD+Snow tires> AWD with all-seasons (which is how most AWD owners run the car).

Unless you regularly need to climb mountains in the snow the only thing AWD will do is knock several MPG off your mileage and slow the car down performance-wise.
