Default Additional key

Hi All,
I need one additional key (for IS350) for my wife to be able to push the start/stop button in the car. I looked on sewell and found this, but I am not sure if this is all I need?
I am aware that I'll need the dealer to reprogram it.

That should work. You may want to buy the mechanical key as well just in case the battery in the remote should die while your wife is out using your IS.

Thanks. I think I'll also order the mechanical key.

Also, anyone know if the engine cover (the piece that go on top of the engine with the Lexus logo on it) on the IS250 will fit on the is350?

No, they are different sizes, you have to get the IS350 engine cover.

Why not get her a smart access card instead? She can just keep it in her wallet then.

Different mounting points too so it won't work.

smart card would be nice, but yeah, it's pricey :-)
I think I'll just get her the key fob as she doesn't drive this car often. he has her own 2010 highlander and this IS is mine :-)

you also need to program the key fob before you able to use it. It cost $60 at dealership

yeah, i am aware of that. I am trying to look for a DIY on how to program it myself. It shouldn't be more difficult than coding :-)

It's flatly impossible unless you own the correct hardware/software (which you don't unless you're a toyota/lexus shop or possibly a locksmith)

Default Keyless/fob re-programing

sorry guys
I read this thread and wanted to butt in to ask if any of you have had one of this keys (used) re-progammed at any SO. Calif. dealership or locksmith. I bought one off ebay for $50. My local dealers won't re-program any key that belonged to any other vehicle. I least that's what I was told. Does anybody know differently?
Any info. will be greatly appreciated!

^ Really? That's interesting. I believe there was another member before that bought a used key and had it reprogrammed somewhere in CA without any issues. I'll try and find the thread but somehow i doubt i'll dig it up lol

It can be done, but some dealers apparently are too lazy to look up how.

You have to do a master reset on the system (removes all keys basically) then re-add each of em including the used one... so it's not the 2-minute job the "add a brand new key" is but it's certainly doable.
