I was at the hole-in-the-ground shop today getting my tires rotated and the service technician noticed the excessive curb rash on my rims. After explaining to the technician what a horrible parallel parker I am, he suggested getting 235/35 tires instead of the 225 which Lexus suggests to provide extra rubber around the rim. Will these even fit?

I wouldn't recommend you doing that, since it's going to affect your odo. Cosmetic wise, may not look good on the car as it may look funny looking it from behind.

Practice your driving skills would be the proper way, as this is a Lexus.

assuming you're currently on 225/45-17's, 235/35-17 would be 6+% too fast; your odometer would read 60 but you'd probably be doing closer to 64. and like Sango posted, it would add more miles on your odometer over the life of the tires.

you can try 235/40-17, 235/45-17, or 245/40-17 if you want that extra bit of sidewall to protect the edges of your oem wheels.

If you are actually driving 64 mph and your car thinks your are only going 60 mph. after an hour of driving you will have traveled 64 miles and your car will show 60.
I put 235 tires on a 20 inch rim. the tires are slightly larger diameter than stock as well.

There's no way you'd go from 225/45R17 to 235/35R17, you'd do 235/45R17, which is actually only 1.4% difference. They'd fit on the wheels fine, Lexus puts 245/45R17 on the same wheels in the rear on RWD models.

I am debating over the same thing. I am planning on getting the Continental ExtremeContact DWS but cannot decide whether to get OEM 225/45R17 or wider with the 245/40R17. What would you recommend?

225/45R17 will give you better grip in most winter conditions, due to the smaller footprint digging into the snow harder.

Granted it will snow a few days out of the year, would the wider 245 be better for the rest of the year when its dry and just wet (rain)? I wanted to get some more cornering grip and stability.

Not sure why I thought you were asking about winter tires, but if you are concerned about dry performance and cornering, wider is probably going to be what you're looking for. I'm not sure how wide you can go in the front before rubbing, maybe someone else can chime in about running 245's up front.

(PS: If you were talking about winter tires though, narrower is usually a good idea, I run ridiculous tires on my RWD in the winter -- 205/50R17 on all four)

Resurrecting an old thread here. I just put 235/45R17 Continental Extreme Contact DWS on my IS250 (17" wheels all round). They fit fine and don't rub at the front. The problem with 245/45R17s is they would probably rub at the front (some people have had rubbing even with 235s for some brands). Pity as the 245s would look better and protect the rims better. Lexus does not recommend going larger that 225 on the front.

Like I say, I am running 245's in the front without any issue, but I am not lowered, just on the factory sport suspension.

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to Club Lexus I was wondering if I can use the following tires on my 2007 IS250 17" wheels:

Front: 225/45R17 (Same OEM size as stock)

Rear: 245/40R17 (different 40 size)

would it be ok to use the rear size tire like the one above? The OEM tire size is 245/45/R17 and I have rear tires size 245/40R17 would this be okay?

Please let me know what you all think. Thanks!!
