Default Melting and Cracked Dashboards

The dashboards are made in CHINA. It is a defect. I am currently in negotiation with Lexus USA to replace the entire dashboard free of charge. How can LEXUS claim they are a quality dealer when their dashboards are melting and cracking???? It defies logic. Either they are offering a top of the line luxury car or they are not. We live in Florida. My husbands Mazda 3 2006 has no cracks and is NOT melting. My sons 2003 Jetta has no cracks and is NOT melting. My 2008 RX350 has cracks all over the dashboard.

Wake up people. This is a DEFECT. Demand total replacement.

What's your mileage? Do you own a IS250/350 or RX350?

Default CRACKED and MELTING DASHBOARD VICTIMS...

Please watch this video by a Toyota dealer in Florida if it posts about defective dashboards. He thinks that Toyota and Lexus should cover this problem whether you're in warranty or not. If you can't see the video please fill out the NTSHA form at Safercar.gov. It only takes a few minutes. You should do this especially is you have cracks over the glove compartment of the driver's side. Underneath that area is the airbag. The cracks can have an affect when the airbag deploys.

I have 2 Lexus IS (3 year IS250 old and 8 year old IS350) and i do NOT have melting or sticky dashboard. I think the main root cause of this is the HEAT! It seems like many of the ones who have this problem are in the area with hot weather like Florida.

They can do it for free, I got mine done after 6 months of waiting but they did it. 4 door panels and dash.

I'm detailing the seats and everything else since I just lost the love for the interior and didn't care to maintain it. The meltdown was horrible. My bad i don't know if i have photos of before but if i find them ill post them.

I'm in Hawaii and I bought my 06 is350 used. The original owner bought the car "brand new" in Sacramento. I took it to servco lexus here in Hawaii and after waiting 2 months, they told me that they would replace it free of charge had the vehicle been purchased originally in Hawaii.

What do you suggest I do? Call and complain to corporate and tell them what the dealership told me? I agree with you though.

This is why I use my sun shade(military grade) for my 350 whenever I'm at work (no cover garage) and I live in Texas where its 95+ degrees outside. I've heard of Lexus dashboard melting from my cousin since his wife's RX350 dash melted and cracked as well and I've been fearing that since the first day I bought it.

I'm in Northern Cali and notice that my dash has that sticky feeling. I wouldn't go as far as to say it is melting, however, it is definitely sticky/tacky feeling and dust/lint/etc does get stuck to it. I've never treated it with any chemical and it's is garaged.

I don't know if it is a related problem, but I do notice that when the car is hot inside - after sitting in a park lot - there is a lot of squeaking/creaking/rattling noises coming from the dash area around the. The overall fitment around the instrument cluster has also (seemingly) gotten progressively worse)

My car is an '08, purchased in '07 and my wife and I are the original owners. The car is 6.5 year old and has just over 100k miles on it so I haven't even considered raising the issue to Lexus corporate.

Just googling this issue I found this.

http://www.wptv.com/money/consumer/t...ay-for-repairs

And a service bulletin has been announced already. http://media2.wptv.com/documents/lexusTSB.pdf

Looks like the 06'-08' models are affected and that many people/dealerships know about this. Hopefully the 09'-14' models have been ironed out.

But wow, I hadn't thought about this safety issue until I read this from the above article.

"Drivers feel the defect is unsafe, and shine a light on the issue with videos taken from their point of view. Now we've learned the safety issues may go even deeper.

"Because this dashboard has the airbag inside on the passenger side I wouldn't feel safe in a car that had a cracked dash," explained Stewart. "Anything that would make an airbag go off too soon or go off too late would be very serious."

The federal agency that oversees safety issues has only received a handful of complaints. Hundreds more are complaining on social media."
