Lexus fail - unhappy!
Not too long ago, my VSC light turned on. My bumper2bumper warranty is past, but a good co-worker of mine told me I had an o2 sensor error, so I decided to get it checked out at Serramonte Lexus (where I bought the car).
The advisor had me sign a 150 diagnostics fee and said I wouldn't have to pay it or the repairs IF the issue was small. Otherwise I was to be hooked for the 150 and then the repair, if I chose.
The finding was a faulty o2 sensor and the advisor told me it would cost 350 to fix (total). This was 50% of what he originally quoted me, so he made it seem like it was a deal.
I told my co-worker this news and he said it is supposed to be covered under the emissions warranty, which is 8 hrs or 80k miles. I looked at the warranty manual and it says it is, but it was explicit.
So I called the dealership and asked the service guy to fins out if it was true and he said yes. But before I had a chance to ask his name, he xferr'ed me to my advisor who gave more run around.
Can someone shed some light on this? I plan on calling the advisor out and asking for the manager if I have to. I can plenty afford the 350, but it isn't about that. It is about being lied to and gouged.

http://www.lexus.com/pdf/service/MY1..._C_ISF_WSG.pdf is the warranty booklet. Read pages 23-25. End of 25 says 'sensors' but o2. But that should be obvious!

Btw, when the advisor is playing dumb by asking me, who is the service tech u talked to and playing it off.
And when I called service a second time, the dame couldn't give me a straight answer about the o2 and now says it is not covered. Such BS. I got his name though.

A few items are explicitly listed as 8/80 and covered for 8 years or 80,000 miles.
O2 sensors are not on the 8/80 list.
Only things that are are the ECU, the cats, the DLC, and the light itself on the dash.

A lot of cars do. Depends on how the car was driven, etc. Get the work done independently for less. cost also depends on which sensor position is bad, but if you're getting a quote for 350 incl. labor it's probably one of the cheaper ones.

It's mostly freeway and never pushed. I had to put down $150 in order for them to even take a look @ it. Had I walked after knowing the issue, that would have been a sunk cost. It took them 3 hours to fix. I ended up paying $300 otd.

[QUOTE=Kurtz;6536799]
O2 sensors are not on the 8/80 list.
[QUOTE]
If this is indeed correct, it sounds like the op should call the advisor and thank him for not charging him more than he did.
It's not fair for the advisor and dealership to get trashed just because "a co-worker" and an unnamed "service guy" were both wrong (lied to you?) about what is/is not covered under warranty.
Having principles is a good thing and should cut both ways.
