The easiest way to remove the plug is via the engine bay. Dont lower the trans like tsb says. Remove the intake manifold and you will have direct access to the plug.

Sounds like you're fine. Unless you notice the dampness on the inside of the car, I wouldn't be worried. It's a lot of water that soaks up in the carpet - you'll notice if it happens.

Good advice - I probably would have done it myself if I knew it could be done that way.
I was told by the service department at my local Lexus dealer that my A/C grommet appeared to be blocked. I have a 2006 IS 250. I have never seen any water in my car and have owned it since new. I only have about 50,000 miles on the car. I have an extended Lexus Platinum Warranty that is good until November 2013. They told me that the warranty wouldn't cover the problem.
I have never seen any water on the carpet in the back or front seats. except under my car, on the pavement. I think the dealer, not my usual dealer, just wanted to drum up business. I have never once smelled any foul oders and water forms a small puddle under the car, after driving in this warm humid Florida weather. He used the term, "he thought that I had a blockage in my A/C grommet. No signs of it and it should have been covered by my very expensive "Platinum Warranty", if work was needed. He said my extended warranty wouldn't cover the grommet, that doesn't appear to be a problem anyway! Any one know if the Lexus Platinum Warranty would cover this?
(DO NOT FOLLOW THE TSB) I just followed the TSB for removing the grommet on my 06 is250 AWD. After I finished the entire job of dropping trans and bolting everyrhing back together, I stuck my hand up to where the grommet is. I found that without unbolting or dropping anything you can reach the grommet. On the drivers side of the car, put your hand up between the exhaust pipe and in front of the shift linkage. Reach directly above the trans as if you're aiming for the center console. Once you find it (its the only rubber thing above the trans as far as I know) yank that sucker out, run the car w/AC and make sure it drips. If it drips, you're done. Otherwise it might be the sun roof drains but look that up
so if your really wet and your takng up the carpet and all that, cant you get at grommet from inside? i tried sticking my hand up there and it aint happening.
I used a Borescope attached to my phone and positioned it so i could see the grommet. i then took a hook and duck taped it to a coat hanger. all that transmission dropping and exhaust dropping IS NOT NEEDED, do not waste your time with doing all that. it usually just turns into another problem! if you got a 10 year old kid who can follow direction they can do the job for you in 10 seconds. i dont think my carpets got wet enough to require ripping them up.
