Default how to tell what headlights I have from the Factory

Hey guys... Love the forum... Just a quick question... How do I tell which Headlights I have... when I turn they move side to side and they look pretty white? Any definitive way to tell without taking them out? Either way Thanks

Also which fog light bulb, and parking light bulb matches the factory headlights? Not the size the color and intensity Im not a big fan of the color difference...

If they move side to side they're HIDs with AFS.

The easiest method for any model/year is below though:

2006, all models:
Do you have memory seats? If yes you have HIDs, if no you don't.

2007-2010 all models:

Do you have memory seats? if yes you have HIDs, if not go to next step

Go through the menu options using the multi-select switch to the lower left of the steering wheel, the switch that looks like <o>. Do you see an option for AFS ON/OFF? If yes you have HIDs, if not you don't.

2011 IS350: You have HIDs.

2011 IS250: Do you have memory seats? If yes you have HIDs, if not...good damn question. AFS no longer exists so the 'easy' check the menu method doesn't work here.

Here is a easy way to tell on the '11 IS250

Do you have LED daytime running lights? If yes you have HID's, if not then you don't have HID's.

The is series puts both halogens and hids into projectors. So the visual test does not work.

This tricked me when I purchased my is because I assumed I had hids due to seeing projectors in the headlights. It wasn't until I pulled a bulb out that I realized it was a standard halogen bulb inside of a projector.

Also Projectors have been around for a very long time way before HID's. Look at the the 94 integra it had projectors in the low beam but was still a halogen bulb.

Honestly, you should be able to tell from the color output. It's quite different from halogens. Not to mention HIDs have a brief "warm up" when they ignite until they get bright. Halogens just turn on to full brightness immediately.

FYI, the IS300 and Acura RL around 2001 used OEM HID Reflectors with D2S/D2R bulbs. Projectors were not initially designed for HIDs which is a common misconception that all reflectors are halogen and all projectors are HID.

if your lights look amber/yellow youve got halogens, if they are white, they are stock HID. You can also call your dealership and provide the VIN for an absolute answer...then again, maybe you are buying used and someone changed it.

Seriously folks- the above is a lot easier way to tell than trying to judge how "white" the light is or any other "look at the lights themselves" method.

On any HIDs you can also just listen close the the headlights and if you hear a "buzzing" sound you have HIDs. The AFS method is the easiest on the 07-10

@Calvin they look identical upon visual inspection so that picture is useless

That answered my question, thanks. I didn't know they put halogens in projectors in the IS.

I have a 2007 IS250 without the memory seats and no AFS option. So I now know for sure I have the H11 halogen bulbs for my low beam headlights.
One of my low beam light keeps going out after some time of use.
I don't want to spend the $$ for HID.
I was wonder what's a good bulb for around $50 per pair?
Thanks in advance.
