Default Sold the IS and picked me up a DIESEL!

A 2011 BMW 335d in alpine white, with saddle brown interior, premium package, Nav.

Never got around to modding my IS, but I've been having fun with the d! So far I've put a clear bra on, tinted the windows, dropped the car on Eibach Springs and BMW Performance dampers, threw on some new 19" rims, replaced the fog bulbs, installed rear spoiler, blacked out the front grills, and tuned it. Now the car is putting out approx 500lb ft of torque and over 300 hp and I still get 39 mpg on the highway. The torque is all down low, which makes for a FUN daily driver.

I know it's not a Lexus, so plese be kind...

Looks great, and sounds fun! I'm curious to how 500tq with 300hp feels?

Congrats on a great car.

Nice car...I love the 335d the most compared to the rest of the current 3 series line. There's just something about all that torque in the car that feels quite amazing when you drive it. MUCH more enjoyable than a 335i IMO. Still a very quick car too, although not as fast as the 335i.

Thanks guys. It's a work in progress. Trying to keep it clean.

The "d" was appealing to me on many levels. As previously mentioned by another poster it doesn't have the HPFP problems of the 335i. It's also very economical in both city and highway driving. I get mid 20's around town. There is more back seat room then I had in the IS and it's slightly wider inside the cabin.

Thank you. It feels like a V8. It makes the car feel faster than it is, if that makes any sense. Don't get me wrong it's a quick car, faster than a stock 335i, but with so much torque readily available down low it feels like ***** to the wall with little effort. The engine pushes the car with very little effort, it's just so smooth. On the highway, it only takes one flick of the accelerator to pass another car with ease.

The diesel has a different feeling then a high reving gasoline engine like the 335 or IS350. I came from an IS250 so the torque in the "d" was a HUGE jump. The car pulls hard from 1750 rpm up through the redline 5500 rpm with peak torque coming on at 1750 through 2200 rpm. It has 2 turbos a small one that initially kicks on and larger turbo that kicks in when under load.

What is nice is I can get that "go-fast" feeling during relatively normal driving or the same feeling you might get accelerating and reving your engine up near redline. The only problem with all of that low end torque is that the traction control has a tendancy to kick on a little more frequently. It probably doesn't help that I can't keep my foot off the accelerator.

Downside is tuning/performance mods are few and far between for BMW diesels here in the states, unless you own a cummings diesel, so that is a definite draw back. The fact that the car has a diesel particulate filter and urea injection more or less rules an aftermarket exhaust. All of that is okay though, that's not why I bought it.

I agree, it "feels" fast than even an M3 which I test drove right before the "d." With the tune on my car it's even quicker and faster than the 335i, and will give an M3 a run for it's money. It's a sleeper!

Sad to hear that you let your Lexus go.

Nice choice on the BMW. It's more fun to drive...especially on the tracks!

I was a little sad, but it helps I still have a Lexus in the garage. If I had the IS350 I would probably be bit more sad, perhaps I wouldn't even sold it. I just got a little bored of my IS250 after 3 yrs. Don't get me wrong it was a fun car to drive, very quiet, it looked cool with the G Spyders and it had the manual transmission, which made it a bit more fun, but I missed the HP/Torque.

RESPECT. I love the 335d...and especially in white. All I would do next is upgrade the angel eyes to some leds and swap out all of the interior lights with V-Leds.

Yea, I thought about it, but one of the only kits out there that is worth a damn costs a lot of money and it requires that I remove my headlight assembly and ship them out to be converted which can take a couple of weeks, it's just not a practical option. 99% of the other plug and play LED angel eye options, they look great at night, but can't see them during the day. I have no idea why BMW decided to put LED angel eyes on the LCI e92 and not the LCI e90, they look so hot.

Up next is a Hamman carbon fiber front lip spoiler, followed by painted reflectors to replace the orange reflectors on the side of the front fenders.
