Hmm... Do you mean splotchy as there a random spots in the glass that makes it look like leopard print?

I have that too on my windows, it's very noticeable if I wear sun glasses.

So I'm wondering too...

The dark spots are caused by the Polarized sunglasses. Tempered glass, when viewed with polarized sunglasses will look "spotted" or "blotchy". I dont know the physics behind it, but is it one way that you can check if glass is tempered. Try this as an experiment: When you see a car window that looks blotchy when viewing with your polarized sunglasses, remove them... the spots will go away. Also, try looking at a windshield, you should not see the blotches as the windshield in not tempered (it is laminated safety glass). Polarized sunglasses will also reek havoc with LCD displays, such as your cellphone, the car radio, and the gas pump, and many other displays.

Interesting I am going to have to test this and check it out. I was just worried because I am about to get tints on my car and didn't want it messing with my stuff.

Get the tints ! Enjoy them.

Are you getting the front door windows done ? I wonder how much the cops hassle you here in NJ over that...?

It's called birefringence and all that simply means is it's an effect that you can see when looking at tempered glass with polarized sunglasses. Tempered glass is just heat stressed glass which creates a honey come like structure throughout the glass. This causes the light to refract causing the dark spots. It's nothing to worry about and in fact it's a reassuring thing because it lets you know the glass in your car is reinforced.

Yup, it's normal. I did notice the effect was amplified after putting my tints on though.

I was thinking of getting 35 all around and see if that attracts the coppers.
