Buyer's Guide to Used Lexus 2nd Gen IS Models (merged buying advise threads)
#107
If you buy it expecting it to be perfect you'll be heart broken. As with ANY used car, be prepared to spend a little $$ setting your new purchase right. I bought my 2007 IS350 in Sept with 62,000 miles. I paid 22k which I considered a good price. I've had to put in a little money (alignment, 2 headlights, air filter, etc) but I think what I saved on getting a higher mileage vehicle made it worth it. Now that Lexus has backed the power-train for 100,000 miles free of charge I feel even better about my decision.
At the end of the day remember its a Toyota, it will run for much longer than you'll want to keep it. The same is probably true for whom ever buys it from you in a few years.

*******buying used 08 is350 ...few questions******
found a used 08 is350 with nav with 15,900 mileson it..Ive negotiated the price down to 27,750, is that a good deal???
the center console doesnt have the wood trim, does that mean it doesnt have the premium package?? what else would i be missing???
does the car come with a 6spd auto trans?? if so does it rev matches when down shifting????
and last, do all Nav come with a back up camera???

If it doesn't have wood and it doesn't have memory seats then it's a base model. Which means you'd be missing everything except the possible stand-alone options it might have (which are: HIDs, spoiler, 18" wheels, park assist, nav, and mark levinson)
If it doesn't have wood but it DOES have memory seats it's a sport package. Which means you'd only potentially be missing any of the stand-alone options that aren't already in the sport package, and those are the rear spoiler, park assist, nav, and mark levinson.
Nav always comes with the backup camera.
All 2ISes are 6-speeds, be they auto or stick. There's no way to manually down shift the auto (those paddles aren't shifters, they are top gear limiters... which can fool you into thinking you're directly shifting, but you're not)
Premium or Luxury package would both have wood.

okay so i got my 2006 IS350 silver at 28,000 with luxury package - memory seats, ML speakers, rear shade for backseats and of course Navgiation for 32,000 and oh it is lexus certified so i get a 3 year warranty. So, i will let you be the judge =D

If it has memory seats and NO woodgrain then it's the sport package (which is the best package IMHO- has everything the Luxury package does except the woodgrain and rear sunshade, but adds the sport suspension and sport pedals)

Ok, just wanted to make sure it has the vented seats and HIDs since the dealer is close today and it's about an hour away.
I also has the VIN checked for recalls and the valve and pedal recall has not been done, they said it's about a 3 months wait to get an appointment to have it done . Should this be an issue??

Thinking about buying an IS, any help?
After convincing my wife and buying an Audi was a bad idea, we have settled into getting in IS of the current body type (2nd gen). We are looking for a used one and hopefully below 20k. We're thinking about getting the IS250 since we don't need AWD in CA and don't want 300+ hp that will eat gas like crazy.
What do you guys recommend that I look into when buying such a car, pricing, dealers/private? Any advice/help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Wil

Yea i agree with the mileage ..i had a is250 awd and now drive a is350, the mpg difference were minimal. Maybe on long road trips, i hit 33mpg once on my is250. other then that combined mpg is about 20-24mpg the most if u 50/50 city and highway.
