Default Purchasing Used IS350

Hey everyone, I just sold my Audi A4. In the market for a new car. Ive came across the IS350 and pretty much fell in love with it. I test drove a is250 just cause they didnt have a 350 on the lot, but kind of got the idea of it. Im from Iowa, so rwd will probably suck, but I guess I can find a beater 4wd/awd car for winter if needed. I found a 06 is350 I like. Just kinda wondering what everyones opinion is on these or any issues they have, since im not too familiar with these cars. Any input would be great

Thanks guys, James

IS350 is a great choice. If you do some more searching on this forum, people have actually used RWD in the snow. With some experience, you can actually drive well with IS350 RWD and a good set of snow tires.

If you still have problem driving in snow, then you can always get a beater AWD car.

IS350 is pretty reliable... you can check the dealer/Lexus service records to see if the owner had maintined it properly and all the recalls have been done.

only difference btw 06 and later years is the ease of turning off traction control (pedal dance in 06 vs push and hold a button in 07+)

the thing you have to watch with buying a car out of full warranty is if the tsb's have not been performed. Some off the top of my head:

dash rattle
low dust brake pads
moldings around the windshield

these are difft from recalls which will be done regardless of warranty status but you should check that the recalls you want done are there or you'll need to leave it at a dealer for a bit. No biggie.

I also just went through my first winter driving the rwd exclusively and it never missed a beat.

I picked up an 07 last year around this time and its been all smiles since then. We don't get much snow here in NC but with a good set of snow tires and some brains the 350 should do fine (or so i've read). Its a lexus/toyota so reliability should be there. I have a Tacoma before the lex with 135K miles still running like new. I would check out the maintenance records and other than that you should be good to go.

I'm from Iowa too and just bought a pre owned 2006 IS 350. 32,000 miles, nav, ML, luxury package, etc. I have no worries about running a RWD car with traction control. A good set of snow tires makes a huge difference!

KBB is $25,700 in good condition so I think it's fairly priced. It has 52k miles all service up to date newer tires. Feel free to make me an offer worst I can say is no.

On my phone and pm system isn't working. At $18,000 you're looking at 100k plus miles. My car books for $27,000 in excellent condition, unfortunately I cant do $18,000 as Carmax offered me more. I havnt even seen a 50k mile is250 around that range either all seem to be at least 20k plus at least out here in az. Good luck with your search.

I was trying to stay below $20,000 when I started looking a few months ago too but I found out that pretty much all the IS350s at or under $20,000 either had super high miles or an accident history. I ended up finding a 2006 IS350 with 14,000 miles and I swooped it up off the original owner for $25,000. Even though I had some explaining to do to the wifey, I'm glad I got a great car.

I've bought a car thats been in an accident before to try and save money but it ended up costing money in the long run, I wont do it again.

The car mentioned above for $23k looks like a good deal with the new tires and service history. My advice is to either buy a well taken care of IS350 or wait and save up a little more money.
