Default Trunk springs?

I have a 06 IS350 that has been great over the years since I bought it new in 2006. If I have one complaint it's that the trunk lid is a pita to open, very heavy and with no assist. Now I have the car at Lexus now for it's 60k service and they gave me a 2010 model for use and I noticed right away the trunk seems to have a assist lift cylinder added. Is this something that can be added or am I just imagining the whole thing?

Hmmm, I'll be interested to see the response you get. I completely agree with your comments about the trunk lid. It is just engineered very poorly. I saw my wife struggle with our '06's today too and thought that it is just not right!! AND, if we shut it from fully opened position boy does it SLAM. I make a point to drop it shut from at least half way down.

I would love to find a solution to this.

sometimes my trunk feels a little difficult to open after i fiddle with my sound system and 4080 enclosure. i usually fix this by adjusting the trunk panels(liners). i basically remove them and put them back together. the problem is usually caused by the top portion of the liner being pushed up against the side, making it difficult to open and close. just mess around with it a little and you should be fine.

Ok guys i will look into it and see if its just a worn our part or if something really had changed over the years, I never remember the trunk being as easy to open as this 2010 model.

The part numbers for the supports changed several times over the years, it's definitely possible they are stronger on the newer cars than they were in the past. It is also possible that your old ones are wearing out, either way if you do get new ones from Lexus, you would get the newer ones, so that would likely help to make it feel more like the newer ones as well.

I quite like the feel of the trunklid on my 2011.
