Default Tip on how to save money on the 60k spark plug change.

Just thought I'd like to share a tip on how to save money for changing the sparkplugs at 60k miles. It cost me $225 total to change the sparkplugs.

Dealer wanted $450 if they provided the sparkplugs and labor. I bought the sparkplugs for $70 ($130 msrp) at Sewell Lexus and asked the Dealer to change the sparkplugs when they do the fuel pressure line recall. Since they have to remove the airbox and plenum at the same time they knocked down the price to $155 for labor.

if you get the spring recall done, the labor for sparkplugs will be completely free. They have to remove everything to get to the springs

I thought the spring recall was only for the IS350. Does it apply to the IS250?

Go to an aftermarket Lexus mechanic. Mine quoted me $180, and that includes labor and the spark plugs. Personally, I wouldn't change spark plugs at 60K. Spark plugs easily go 120K+ miles. I'm at almost 80K miles and have yet to touch mine and still running great. I will probably change them around 90.

Owners manual states 60k.

And a number of folks have posted pics of their plugs at 60k looking like they were due. (though you can't really tell from looking how good they still are, you can usually tell if they aren't... if that makes sense)

Given virtually nobody keeps a car over 200k miles you're talking about a difference of ONE extra change over the life of the car if you follow the mfg schedule versus just hoping for the best.

To second Kurtz, another point is that changing your spark plugs at 60k is required under the terms of the Emissions Control Warranty. You're almost to 80k miles so it may be moot for you, but if you'd had an issue that you'd wanted to have warrantied under the Federal Emissions Warranty, they could have legitimately denied your claim.

It was a little annoying to get one on the drivers side but overall pretty simple.
