Branch fell on my car and put a dent on my hood and right front fender
Which way of handling this would yield the best results. Unfortunately the dent on the hood hits a body line and is in a pretty bad spot.
1. Let a dent guy fix it for money out of pocket. $200 the dent guy said he can probably get the hood dent 85% fixed. He said his 85% would look more like 100% to me or the untrained eye.
2. Go through insurance, pay the $500 comprehensive deductible (please don't lecture me) and possibly get the parts replaced and painted by a Lexus certified shop?
Which would affect the value of my car the most?

Is the tree a state owned tree? For example, you were parked on the street and the branch broke off...
If so, you may be able to file a claim against the state to pay for the damaged hood. The state's insurance should cover the repair.
Anyway, sorry to hear about the incident. That's one of my fears parking under a tree branch or next to a tree. I would just go for the $200 for repair. If you claim from the deductible it's going to raise your insurance rate.

As for which repair will have the most effect on the value of the vehicle, it will be the same. If its done well you shouldn't be able to tell. Also, looks like the fender and not the hood?

Just because its a dealership recommended shop does not mean they do better work, I have a plenty of files to prove that point as well as my own IS that had a couple things repaired at the so called "dealer's recommended facility". Don't get me started on that topic.

Its a small fry damage claim. Get an estimate first and see how much over the $500 it will be before you decide. Comp loss is a non sur-chargeable loss.

I have an insurance adjusting company if you have any questions
