looking to upgrade to 2nd gen is250
I have a 99 es300 and love my car, but its time to start looking for a new ride and I want to stay with lexus. Ive always loved the look of the is and want to know what to expect with this is250 2nd generation. Is it worth trading in my car that still looks new and runs great for an is250?

For a note, there is no 2nd gen IS250. But there is a second gen IS300 which is the current ISx50.
Why do you want the IS250? Keep in mind that you will be moving into a smaller car and perhaps a bit slower. If speed isn't you concern, then the IS250 power is pretty decent. It's enough to get me on the free way and make lane changes if I need to.
Based on you question, you still seem attached to your ES300. If so, just keep it if it's still running great.
But the best way for you to find out is to do a test drive... If you really really like the IS250 after test driving it, then go for it.

This question can really only be answered by you. You said you love your ES300, but you're thinking about upgrading to an IS250. Why are you wanting to upgrade, especially if you love your ES? I would say make sure you have specific reasons (like features the IS has that yours doesn't, for example) otherwise you'd just be spending money to get a newer car without truly needing/wanting it.
If on the other hand you've already made the decision to move to the IS250, then that's a slightly different discussion. Like shadowman said, I think you'll find it's maybe a bit slower but definitely smaller, especially in the backseat. Otherwise it's a great car, I love my IS350. Only concern is to watch out for some notorious TSIBs, like the dash rattle.

For starters the 99 es300 has 185hp. compared to the is250's crushing 204hp. So from everyones exaggeration the IS is actually quicker. The IS will be at least 7 years newer, more than likely get better gas mileage and have more bells and whistles. Not to mention the styling is well very current and new cars are mimicing it. Dont let these guys tell you thats its very slow. Why yes its not the quickest horse in the stable but its not a dud. Itll get up and go and is pretty good on fuel effiency. I drive with a pretty heavy foot and i still manage between 25-26 city mpg's and on the highways cruising at 80-85 I will get around 27-29mpgs.
Now ppl will complain about there are so many recalls bla bla bla, but t be quite honest i think we had maybe 2-3 that had to be done, but the rest were voluatry and you wouldnt ever even know, but lexus is pretty customer orientated so they go ahead and correct TSIB's, which most ppl here cry and whine and call them recalls and act if its the end of the world.
Would I like the car to be easier to tune and upgrade.... yes.... should i of purchased the 350 for an additionaly 100hp.... no. To me i didnt need it, but when it comes down to it test drive both the 250 and 350. Hope that helps bud. If you have more questions feel free to PM me

I came from an 07 civic (140 hp) The IS250 is definitely an upgrade when it comes to speed but, it's not fast. Like Fluxx said though, it will definitely get up and go (acceleration speed) which I mentioned on my first post. You won't be disappointed in the switch.
