Default Has anyone had the P0051?

Just a few days ago, my check engine light came on with the message "Check VSC". So I scanned the codes [P0051 - Oxygen (A/F) Sensor Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 2 Sensor 1)], cleared it and went for a drive. It came back on.

The car is under 30k miles

Btw, not too long ago, I got a message about a fuel line recall or something like that. Could that be related in any way?

Take it to the dealer since it's still under warranty.

Will do, just thought I'd ask if anyone had a similar experience.

sounds like the heater in the oxygen sensor has gone bad.. pretty easy fix they will just swap in a new sensor. the heater comes on everytime you start the car. therefore it will come right back every time you clear the code

Would it cause my car to run rich, as much as a bad O2 sensor would?

no the heater part of the oxygen sensor is totally different from the part that measures the oxygen level in the exhaust. the heater part is like a light bulb filament sometimes it just burns out.

My 2007 is250 with 60K CEL with VSC also came on this past weekend. I took it to autozone for CEL scan and came back P0051 just like yours. My car is no longer under warranty so hopefully I can fix it myself but I have no idea where to start. Time to start searching online. If anyone has any tips it would greatly be appreciated.

best thing to do is clear the code and start the car when cold . if the light comes on with the same code you also need a oxygen sensor

What is its purpose, and what would the possible outcome be when it's not working?

its just used to heat up the oxygen sensor to operating temperature faster. it wont hurt anything if you dont fix it.

Does anyone have the OEM part number for the right forward oxygen sensor (Bank 1, sensor 1) on the IS250 (2008).

I'm either blind or whacko, but I can't find it and all I can find is the Denso part number. I want to do a proper cross reference before I hit autozone.

Thanks,

GP

I was told that I have the same bad sensor as yours. have you fixed the problem? How much for sensor and mechanic?
Person who told me was not sure where exactly was this sensor located. Does anyone know?
Is this the one by the battery or on opposite side? It is not the rear ones, I was told.

Kingster sensor are $100 shipped if you look online. Don't have too buy them from the dealer. If your bank1 sensor 1 is driver side primary.
